I was given some beautiful large pecan halves as a gift. But I don't really have much experience using them. I like nuts, but I usually prefer them in savory recipes, not sweet ones. I did a recipe search, but it didn't turn up anything that appealed to me very much. Does someone out there have a great recipe to share? Thanks in advance.

You can make a Pecan Pie or Hot and Spicey Pecans since you do not like sweet ones.

HOT & SPICY PECANS
1/2 c. butter
1/4 c. Worcestershire
1 tbsp. garlic powder
1 tbsp. red pepper
1 tbsp. black pepper
2 tsp. salt
3 c. shelled pecans
Melt butter in pan. Add all ingredients except pecans. Blend well. Remove from stove. Add pecans and stir 5 minutes until well coated. Spread on cookie sheet and bake for 15 minutes in 350 degree oven.
Hope you like these. They are very good.
Hope this helps..

As a southern girl from Georgia, I think the 3 best ways to use them is in pecan pie, pecan cobbler and sweet potato souffle. They are great on a salad, or on ice cream. You can make seasoned( sweet or spicy) pecans as a snack food. They can be added to muffins, cookies, cakes, pancakes, waffles, etc. You can make banana nut bread, fruit salad or fruit ambrosia with them. Heck, you can eat them in almost anything. Or you can sit down and eat them plain for a snack, they are very delicious and healthy. Just experiment with them and enjoy them, you are very lucky to have received them as a gift.

I was gonna say to use them as a pie crust (chop 'em and mix with butter & a little brown sugar & line the pan) - great under a cheesecake - but then read the "not sweet" part. Hmmmm... You can add them to salads (I love pecans & craisins in my salad!).

Did you try the allrecipes.com site? They have a lot of good recipes on there

Mmm! I have the BEST recipe, very simple and DELICIOUS!
so here it goes:
1/2 cup of sugar
1 egg white
1 tsp of salt
2 tbsp of watter
2 tsp of powder cinnamon
4 cups of pecans
Instructions:
You mix the egg white until is kind of fluffy, then add the watter (mix again) and then add all the ingredients (mix for a few sec) then add the pecans, make sure they are all cover with it.
Have the oven at 350, use a pan (like the one to bake cookies) then spread them all over and cook them for 15 min. Then let them cool down and enjoy them. They are great for a snack. I can eat them all day long.
I hope you like them.

candied pecans

2 tbsp water mixed with 2 tbsp sugar
mix in 1 cup pecans
spread out on a cookie sheet (that has a lip because there will be liquid left)
bake in the oven for ~20min at 325F, stirring occasionally until liquid is gone and pecans are toasted and glazed

use as a snack or my favourite is on salads

Pecans and other nuts are usually great on a spinach salad. Other toppings to add more flavour to your salad would be raisins, craisins (dried cranberries), mandarin oranges, and garbanzo beans. These other toppings also make your salad more coulourful and appealing. Use an Italian vinaigrette or oil and vinegar.

Pecans! Ah...Pecans!! My flavorite. Try them simply chopped, and spread over Ma-hi-Ma-hi with a not to sweet Mango sauce. Out of this world!! Also, blends really well in casseroles with tuna or chicken recipes. GL!

Go to google & search "spiced Pecan recipes".
I've made cinnamon ones, and I've seen recipes for cajun-type ones.
Good luck!
