My 3yo son got in trouble yesterday, the details are not important but my wife was going to spank him. He ran to me and said "No, only Daddy spank me" Yes, I did spank him; and after I did, he told me that he wants only me to spank him. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I am interested in hearing the opinions of other parents that have seen something like this in their own children.
By the way, this is not a forum for debate on spanking. Don’t waste my time and yours telling me that you think spanking is wrong/cruel/abusive etc. My opinion is not going to change nor is my use of spanking as a discipline tool. I am just asking if anyone else has seen anything like this.

Thank you to the people that have responded so far. To the person that e-mailed me, I am happy to answer your questions but I prefer to keep the discussion here on the board.
1) I didn't discuss the details of the spanking because I didn't think it was important to the discussion, I was more interested in finding out if any other parents had similar experiences. He got into trouble for telling his mommy to 'shut up'. I took him into his bedroom and spanked him over my lap, about 7 or 8 swats on his bare bottom with my hand.
2) Yes, I did ask him why he only wanted me to spank him, he said he didn't want mommy to touch his bottom but it was ok if I did it. However I thought that may just the reason he gave me and not necessarily true because she gives him baths and he never complains.

I'm on your side to spank a child as discipline. When I was a kid my mom said I would hold out my hand and say "Mo" after she had spanked me. LOL In my opinion, you shouldn't be the only one spanking him because then he will look at mom as he can do anything wrong and if you're not there he thinks he will not get punished and she has no say as to what he does. I would correct this as soon as possible...just think if you were to go out of town for a few days and your son does something bad and your wife doesn't discipline him because "only dad can spank him." By the time you get home he'll forget what he's being punished for, if he IS punished, and it just makes it harder for both of you, because one will be the pushover and the other the disciplinarian. You don't want that...you really want to call upon Jojo from Supernanny someday?

Hmm. When we were little we wanted our mom to spank us, because she didn't hurt as much as my dad did (he used the belt). Maybe you don't smack him as hard.
Spanking should be legal, the scandanavian countries that outlawed spanking experienced a huge rise in infanticide after the law took effect. It's the only thing some kids understand. You can't reason with kids sometimes.

It is likely that he doesn't feel as "hurt" when you spank him as when his mother spanks him. This doesn't necessarily mean physically, but could be emotional. Perhaps he feels more loved when you spank him instead of his mother. Is she more likely to strike him out of anger, perhaps? Little children can sense our emotions. They aren't "stupid." I can understand a child not wanting to be struck out of anger if the other parent seems to spank out of love.

When it's time for a good spanking, he shouldn't get the choice in who does it.
My kids never had a favorite parent to do the deed, they just covered their little butts and learned their lesson.

SInce he got in trouble with mom,
mom should of spanked him not you.
Maybe moms spankings sting more.

ok so yes my parent also spanked me but they always told me they did it cause they loved me when i was young i was like yea right but know i see im not like the other bad kids at school i respect me parents and i dont go have sex wioth a million guys so.. but as far as spanking him maybe ur wife hit him so hard. im not accuseing her.. just so u know but idk
