I'm 20yrs old, a dependant, and a full-time student in NY. I am currently making $7600 but will soon be making around $10000. I wanted to know if i'm suppose to file taxes or can i just wait until i'm no longer a dependant to file?

A dependent who made over $5150 in 2006 is required to file a return, so yes, you do have to file.

I was a dependent in the year 2004, and I made about 9,000 for the year, I filed my taxes on turbotax.com and i got back everything I paid in and a 1,200 forgiveness credit for making so little, so if I were you I would file yours just so that you can get some money back

Since you are claimed as a dependent by another taxpayer, you MUST file a return yourself as your income is above the limit for someone in your situation.

even though you cant claim yourself, you should still file as you will get some of the money back that they took out during the year.
