Ampecillin is an antibiotic, and not designed to releive pain. It will take time for the medicine to work, your symptoms should be releived in 24 -48 hours.. call your dentist and ask for a pain rx if over-the counters are not doing it for you.

For a very painful tooth, it may take 3-4 days for the antibiotics to relieve the infection and hopefully reduce swelling.

I took Motrin 800mg to help, or Tylenol 500mg caplets to relieve the pressure, I had the same situation and i found that either or both of these helped ME (note, make sure these are ok for you to take, I am not prescribing these, only telling you what helped ME)

I wish you the best with it, I know how painful those can be.
