It means that you have trouble making friends on your own, so you resort to paying for them instead.

Sororities are clubs for women - on college campuses. They all use Greek letters to identify themselves. There are two types of soroities - social and service. The social sororities just socialize - party a lot. The service sororities take on special projects - like tutoring needy kids or canned food drives or whatever. Not just anybody can join. There is usually a "Rush Week" when you have to do whatever is necessary to get in the club (this is very ofent embarressing, gross (stupid) things - like smearing mayonaise on your head or something.) Hazing is against the rules at colleges now - but it does still happen. Very often sorority sisters form a strong bond - very often for life.

I believe there are pros and cons to being in a sorority. I went through rush and was at the final ceremony - and all the girls were drunk. As part of the ceremony they required me to swear on the Bible. I wasn't a Christian - so I found that odd - AND - I also found it weird that everybody was drunk - but insisting that I swear on the Bible. They told me that if I didn't swear on the Bible that I would not be part of the Soroity. So - I left. I spent the rest of my years in college hanging out with the theatre majors and the international club. They were much nicer people. And I made life long bonds there - just as easily.

It means you get to be a stupid sl*t, binge drink, gain 40 lbs and probably end up getting a degree in child development.
