Sometimes when something just hits me I'll say
"Oww" even though it doesn't really hurt. Why is that?

I'm even stranger, I'll say 'ouch' when something goes wrong but doesn't hurt -even sometimes when it's not expected to be physically painful at all, like when I drop an item, or when I'm watching someone else fall, especially on a movie or something.

However, the times when I really have hurt myself I didn't say ow at all! I didn't say anything or at most if I was with someone else I'd say something like 'hang on, I cut myself, gonna grab a bandage, be right back' on a normal, conversational tone. Probably the adrenaline that kicks in right away with a *real* injury and makes me calm so I can act, but I'm not sure.

That's funny. I was hammering a nail & missed. I said OW even though the hammer landed nowhere near my finger. Interesting question.

Because if you just stood there with no reaction people might think there is something wrong with you and then they might really try to hurt you by hitting your @ss even harder.

Force of habit. It's like we're anticipating the pain, but it does not come.

You anticipate pain, so say "ow"...then feel very silly because there is NO pain, so then you rub whatever you thought you hurt to make it seem real....thereby gaining everyones sympathy!!!

"ow's" are very worthwhile! lol
