I have met one "Christian" too many that said this is the ONLY issue on which they vote. With God as your judge, explain how you justify ignoring the suffering of others by only focusing on this one issue?

Methinks some of you have no eye for the "details." Ah, but the Devil is in the details, isn't he? All the more important to be wary...

I am concerned about this "mainworry" -
Is not a vote for the death penalty "pro-death?" Is not a vote for war "pro-death?" And is not the sum of one's actual behavior more indicative of one's beliefs than the promises one makes?
How is the murder of one better than the murder of the other? Thou shalt kill, but only in moderation?

I appreciate the responses of my fellow moderates. You I can understand. However, I am specifically asking those radicals that insist that abortion is the ONLY issue on which to vote. I am particularly fascinated with the idea that they keep voting the same way expecting different results each time, yet, there it is... Where is the mind with which God gifted them? One would expect that, if abortion were their only issue, they would be dissatisfied with BOTH political parties... One for their stance and the other for their ineptitude to get the job done or at least to give their primary issue similar priority. And yet... Do they lie? Are they hypocrites? Who the hell ARE these people?

Ok, ground rule: quoting the Bible totally out of context - NOT going to make me happy. Just say no to Bible abuse!

Touche, CEM, but I was a Christian and have Christian sympathies. I do not disagree that abortion is wrong, but I put things in perspective as do my more moderate Christian fellows. For what it is worth, I am a very studied agnostic, which means I attended Cathechism, was confirmed UMC, and attended many various Christian churches. My knowledge of this issue is not lacking except that one might vote for murder to vote against murder. Therein lies the connundrum for all Christians and, I think, the attempt to corrupt thee. In voting the way I have heard many Christians vote, one must accept a false dichotomy presented by the two heads of our political monstrosity and, thus, be lead astray. Sound familiar from anything you've read?

I'm fascinated by the repeated claim that not holding conservative Christian values was the cause of the fall of a mostly pagan empire. I suppose the Greek, Mongol, Egyptian, and Persian empires fell for the same reason? They didn't even have Jesus in the first place!! What the heck are you talking about? Empires fall because the leaders became so full of themselves that they treated their generals with disrespect and as slaves. Telling your generals that they are slaves is really really stupid, but the Marie Antoinettes of the world keep letting their heads grow out of proportion. I hardly think more money is going to grease the eye of that needle any better for them. Empires fall because emperors forget who they really serve. In truth, empires fall before the fighting even starts.

Ok, I thank all that answered tonight. This, for what 41 answers has to give, effectively answers my actual question, which I think is begged in your own answers... except in those that perhaps don't mind being hypocrites or simply enjoy being false Christians (let alone those I wasn't asking in the first place).

But you ignore the suffering and deaths of 46 million people??
Abortion is just as important an issue today as slavery was 150 years ago, or as the suffering of the Jews were 60 years ago. A group of people's basic human rights are being trampled upon - people who cannot speak for themselves. There is no other issue on the planet more important than this. The wanton slaughter of innocent children (4,000 a day, more than were killed at WTC) MUST come to an end! It is far more important than health care for self-induced illnesses, more important than a distant war that has still killed fewer people than abortion; more important than illegal aliens. People need to get their heads out of their ***** and wake up and see what's happening to their country.

It's a bit unfair to assume (or at least pose the question in such a way) that all Christians feel abortion is at the top of the list in terms of political issues, where although many Christians probably do find the issue a big one, that so do many others, regardless of religious affiliation or lack thereof.
The issue of abortion is so polarizing, it's no wonder that many people are either black or white when it's brought up. It questions at what point do we consider life to begin, or to what value we hold of the existence of a fetus over the existence of a baby before the "final moments", and whether that even holds value in comparison to the choice of the mother...it's a very complicated to say the least.
It's at the forefront of the concerns of many now (as it probably should be), but it is wrong not to remember other issues at hand when voting -- and although some Christians may do so, it's not a thing that is solely in relation to Christians; the sentiment to vote on the basis of all issues should apply to everyone.

It is not the only issue that Christians vote on. But, unfortunately for right now it is the most important. Most people who vote against abortion are not voting against relief of other injustices. But abortion is the single largest injustice in our society. Abortion kills more people than all wars and electric chairs combined. These things also concern Christians, but they don't kill NEARLY as many people.
Not only that, but abortion is destroying the family unit in our society. And, as the family goes, so goes society. If abortion is not stopped, it will eventually lead to the destruction of our society. If you don't believe me, study history. The greatest society in the history of the world, Rome, was destroyed from within because divorce, abortion, contraception, homosexuality and many other destructive behaviors were socially accepted.

There is nothing more important than the unjust execution of 1.3 million innocent human beings a year. It is not just a "political issue," but a holocaust. However, abortion is not the only "issue" I consider when I vote. Because I am opposed to the killing of ALL innocent human beings, I cannot in good conscience vote for anyone who is pro-war, just as I cannot vote for anyone who is a pro-abort.

One thing is for certain, you are not a Christian. With that being said, here is another Christian you are meeting through this site with an answer to abortion.
Abortion should be a issue with everyone. Its down right murder. As God tells us in His Commandments, Thou shall not murder. No more need be said.
As for us ignoring others sufferings in the world, where have you been all your life? Where so you think most of the funds come from to aid the suffering in the world? From christian men and women that's where.
Shame on you and the people that put these ideas in your head.><>

I couldn't care less if a woman decided to get an abortion. That's her own choice. Just like it's a person's choice to sleep around, use drugs, steal, murder, rape. As long as they don't affect me or my family, then do whatever you want. I'm not a dictator.
I'm more interested in health care, budget, hunger, child abuse/neglect, repeat sexual offenders being let out in 60 days etc.
The abortion is something that woman is going to have to deal with for the rest of her life. Not me or mine.

I am Christian and I agree with you. No, I do not support abortion. But, I don't think this should not be the sole issue to which you cast your vote. Granted it is difficult to separate the issues of Church and state.

Not the only issue, but an important one. God has said in the scriptures that it's a baby that's in the womb. Abortion is murder. And it's the murder of the innocent.

Those unborn babies cannot speak for themselves, so someone has to. It's easy for you to say what you do about this topic since you escaped your mother's womb with your very life. What makes your life more important to fulfill than any other unborn baby's life?
Exodus 21:22 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.

Well, I'm a Christian and that's not the most important issue I focus on. It is up there with the war in Iraq. Innocent lives are being lost there, too, and with all the war torn and poverish countries of the world today. All these issues are of equal importance. I think the abortion issue is just the most controversial.
