Peace!
It does not follow that just because a Christian calls himself one he has to be perfect. Absolutely not. St. Peter and the other disciples denied Jesus. Does that make them unchristian? Of course not. That's why Jesus came so that we can be forgiven every time we sin. That's why he made the sacrifice on the cross so that he can atone for our sins. That's why he instituted the Sacrament of Reconciliation so that we can be forgiven. That's why he instituted the Holy Eucharist so that we can be healed That's why ...

The term christians comes from the term cristos. It was started in Rome. It means "followers of the christ". As a follower, I am well aware of the fact that I am not perfect and I make mistakes. As a follower I also am very aware of what I must do to correct those mistakes. I am very fortunate to have a God that loves me and knows me so well. I believe he is backing me up just for trying to emulate his son. It is not the destination, it is the journey.

The only requirement to be a Christian is to believe that Jesus is the Christ and therefor the Son of God. Whether or not a person is a good Christian is another story.

Christian= Follower of Christ. Dictionary: "one who professes belief in the teachings of Jesus Christ". Not necessarily Christ-like but a follower of Christ. Nonetheless, Christians should act Christ-like.

No one is perfect, true.
You can call us many things:
a true believer
a follower of the Way
Christian
His own
born again
The label doesn't matter, it is the state of your heart that counts, have you turned your life over to Jesus? (There are many who will say Lord, Lord and not enter the kingdom of heaven)
The title of Christian does need to be narrowed down to those who have repented, turned their lives over to Christ, follow Him, who "work out their salvation with fear and trembling".
Only God knows the heart of man. Being a Christian means that you have "put on Christ" in other words, identifying yourself with Him.
I can safely say that I am not perfect and I am a Christian.

I don't hear Christians say they are perfect. Being a
Christian means you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of
the Living God and you try to live by the Ten Commandments
and his teachings, being of good character, loving your
neighbor, helping others who are in need, and taking time
to worship Him. We will be like Him only at the time He
okays us being in heaven to live eternally with Him.

Actually Christian does not mean Christ-like. It is like Amer-ican or Per-sian. Just as those imply a person "of" a certain area, Christ-ian implies that one would be "of" Christ.
While they are supposed to strive to be "like Christ," they are followers OF him: as in "leading the red-letter life," asking themselves WWJD, etc.
