Has anyone had problems with nodules or polyps of their vocal chords?

Before you went to the doctor how did you guess that you had them? What was the problem with your voice? How was it different? And did treating them help your voice?

My mother had them and they made her voice real deep like a male.After treatment her voice was normal.
