Girl Color Schemes

2016-12-14 18:39:14 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

My Daughter is 14 and for the first time has had her own room as she has 4 other siblings...so we thought we would go all out and let her do her own thing .......well she decided on pastel pink and cocoa brown anfter some coaching which she realizes that she will like more in the long run anyhow... these colors are in fashion with lots of accessories to but to go with the color scheme....Pastel blue and cocoa brown are another nice choice.....They are just at that stage where they still want the kiddie colors but at the same time want more grown up colors... I took her to the paint store with me and even the people that were helping us were helping her decide and showing her all the colors she wanted but after seeing these two together she actually liked them the best!!!! Good Luck to You and your 12 year old.... Have fun together doing the job!!!

You should definitely let her decide for herself. One's bedroom--especially at that age--is a sanctuary. It needs to be an expression of HER tastes. You wouldn't want someone (other than you) deciding colors for your most sacred space, right?

Remember, too: It's ONLY PAINT. It's not permanent, and if you don't personally like it, that's okay. It's not the end of the world. Paint is cheap and easy.

Finally, be sure to get her involved (heavily involved) in the entire process. Get her one of those paper jumpsuits, or have her wear some old clothes, get her some brand new brushes, etc., and put her to work right along side you. She'll appreciate the whole process--and especially the end result--so much more. It will give her a sense of accomplishment when all is said and done.

Both of my girls (now grown and on their own) had full say about their room colors/decorations. They also did at least 50% of the work. Now grown, they've often thanked me for letting them make those decisions. They're not only really good at decorating now, they're also both very accomplished "fix it" types.

Good luck. You'll both enjoy this!

I think that sage green goes good in any room and with lots of different accent colors! I have used it in just about every room of different houses I have lived in always looks good. I would add some purple accent colors with it like in the curtains or comforter pillows and mix it with sage, purple, even a light blue for accent or even pink just about every color looks good. I have seen a really pretty plaid print with all those colors it was cute! Very soothing too and that color is always cool so you wont have to worry about repainting it...lol! Have fun!!

You could do like a chocolate brown with a pink. That's one of the 'in things' right now. You can make it frilly or preppy, and it's a color pallet that can grow. Hope this helps you out and happy painting!

Why don't you ask her and do it the way she wants it?

My granddaughter had Disney princesses, but now she's getting her room redone in a pirates theme. I bought her a lovely framed photo of Johnny Depp as Cap'n Jack Sparrow for her room. She's named after two Disney mermaids.

They're renting, so the walls must remain off-white, but she's gonna have some black and red items in there. I haven't seen it yet.

She's 10.

I personally like a dusty light aqua, cream as in evaporated milk color, and a little dusty rose and a touch of green similar to sage or dusty mint. Looks much better than it sounds.

Go with her to choose colors. Pick a main color, two minor colors, and a couple for accents.

But please let her choose. You can veto anything that's really too strange, but try not to.

Honestly, I would ask her what she likes. She has to live with whatever is decided (and so do you) for probably 4-6 years. I would have her give you suggestions of what she would like, and you pick one you can live with.

Or, go to a Home depot/Lowes type store together and peruse through decorating books together. You will get a good idea of what she likes and you can pick something out together.

When I was this age, my mom said she wanted wall paper in the room. She took me to a store and let me pick out several papers I liked. She told me which ones she was confortable with and I picked one. We then built the paint color and the comforter color around the wallpaper I chose. Hope this helps.

I think light perple or lavender is a good color. Its young and girly yet its something she will be able to grow into when she's older. You can do all kinds of styles of decor with it also. Its a soothing calming color and its very fresh and crisp looking.

My 11yr old girl picked out turquoise blue and lime green. She wanted the walls those colors (YIKES!) but I told her we'd do the walls white and just the TRIM in those colors, since they're fairly dark. It sounds weird...but it actually looks really good (plus all your bright colors still look good with it).

I agree with the lavender idea... it's the first color that came to my mind when I read your question. =)

Maybe for your 2nd color, you could go with a pale yellow so that the room doesn't seem too "cold"... to add a little warmth. Like maybe you could paint one main wall the pale yellow and the other walls lavender?

Just my ideas. =) This is a fun question.
