If you are worried about it, call the Social Security office and ask for a report or go by the local branch.
Most people do not know that you can call or go to your local SS office at any time and get a report on yourself. It usually is free but, even if you have to pay a small fee, it is worth it. Look for any jobs he, himself, was not working.
I second the advice to get a credit report as well. I would think that his credit cards were probably in his wallet along with his DL and SS card.
I am certain he can request another SS number if there is a problem. I have had the same one since I was 12 so I am not certain.

Yes. But whether anyone will bother doing anything about it depends on why he is doing it. Making a false statement on a W-9 or I-9 is rarely prosecuted, unless there is fraud behind it. There is probably no tax fraud going on if they file a joint return. He could be defrauding social security or welfare if he is collecting benefits and not reporting the wages. His number will not match if they run it and he will have 60 days to correct it if it is an honest mistake.

You can go to a website that checks peoples backgrounds for money, just do a search for background checks (there are lots of them out there) if for some reason someone has sold his SS #. for money you will be able to view all of his information such as past addresses, phone numbers, previous jobs, SS number.

Yes, go to a social security office and request an earnings statement. If somebody else is reporting earnings under your number you'll see it right away.

I am surprised that NOT ONE of the people on this website that claim that illegal aliens never EVER steal Social Security #s even had the courtesy to respond to you. At least they could have tried to set your mind at ease because I have seen it posted literally dozens of times on here that "no illegal aliens ever steal Social Security #s. Of course they they don't honestly believe this, it's just part of the propoganda they try to feed American citizens, but they would never admit to it. Of course it's not true, but on this website they try to convince legal American citizens that all illegal aliens should be welcomed with "open arms" because they're all honest hard working people that just want to support their families and would never even think of breaking any laws.

Just keep an eye on your credit report. That's the most important. Every year (or 6 months) get a copy.

You should be getting quarterly statements from the IRS. If the numbers don't match your 1040 returns or your W2 statements, then you should check into it.
