Even if the circuit breaker is rated for 20 amps the wiring to the lamp might not be able to take twenty amps since most circuit breakers are hooked up to multiple outlets. The wiring in the lamp may not be able to dissipate 2400 watts. It might melt. The lamp probably came with a sticker that tells you what wattage bulb is recommended for the lamp

It all depends on the current. For a regular 20 Amp circuit, P = 120 x 20 = 2400 Watts

You should check the light fixture to see what maximum wattage it is rated for.If you use anything higher than the fixtures rating it could burn or be damaged.
