www.snp.com.au/snpkids/ this is a website for kids all about blood tests and some colouring etc to help make it less scary.
the most important thing about taking children for blood tests is to not pass on your own fears,... I personally prefer children to lay on a bed and get cuddled by mum while someone else helps to hold the arm still .. that is a personal choice and collectors are all different. The more relaxed you and the child are the less chance there is that it will hurt and be a bad experience. a blood test should be quick and fairly painless though it does sting it shouldnt really hurt. hope the website helps.

Yes they let my son sit on my lap. Unfortuanatley it's not easy. The best thing , I think, is to just hold them down and get it over with as quickly as possible. And pray that the person doing it gets it on the first try. My son was in the hospital and the nurse was sticking him and sticking him and he was bleeding and I just couldn't take it anymore. I had to stop them. I told them they needed to get someone else. Maybe you can talk to your son and promise him a treat or a little surprise when he's finished.

yes, keep him on your lap and hold him tight. if he is getting his finger pricked let him watch them wipe an alcohol pad on his finger and prick it if you want but if it tears him up too much keep his attention on the opposite side of the room from his finger. keep pointing at things and if you want, sing a song or say his favorite rhymn. lots of things to take his mind off of it. just dont let him jerk his hand. if he is having blood drawn into tubes then you will be instructed on how to hold him to prevent injury but you will still need to keep his mind busy. never tell him it wont hurt. thats not the way to go. tell him it feels like a pinch or something he may associate the pain to. dont forget to console him afterward or put on a happy face and say.....its all over....how was that? take a favorite book with you with animals in it. children love animals. just keep his little mind busy. ok? good luck!

I hate blood tests! They hurt so baaaad. But if you want him to stay calm tell him it is going to hurt. No. I'm not kidding. Do it. My dad always when he took me to the doctor for my shots he told me it was going to hurt. When the doctor would give me the shot, I knew that it was going to hurt so I was not suprised and did not move or anything to make it worse. Hold his hand tight, bring a favorite toy, tell him it will hurt, tell him you are there for him no matter what, give him a kiss before and after and then go out and buy him candy. Good luck!

put him on your lap with one of his arms behind your back, to where you can hold the rest of his body more firmly and talk to him and try to keep his mind off of it. if at all possible do not let him see the needle. i have been dealing with that with my four yr old since he was 1 it seems to be the best way.

Try what ever you typically do when he gets his shots, since it's about the same procedure

Get him legos and let him play with them.
