I'm not really "for" them, but they don't offend me and I have nothing "against" them, either. If service is especially good, I'll leave a tip in the tip jar. It's nice to know that it gets spread around, since I know there are a lot of people who work toward producing the products at places that have tip jars - not just a single person. And I don't feel pressured to leave tips just because there is a jar - if the service isn't above and beyond, I simply don't leave a tip. I'm kind of curious about those people who hate them - I've never been anywhere where someone took my money and forced it into the jar, or even when they gave me a look that indicated they felt I should be leaving something in the jar.

I am against them because they take away the incentive for an individual employee to go over and above the expected level of service. A tip is supposed to be when someone does extra things to make your experience more enjoyable.
If the nice employee is going to get as much as their surly co-worker, what incentive do they have?

Normally, I dislike them. But it occurs to me that, once we've reached the point where everyone is tipped for everything, we'll finally start simply stating the total amount expected for goods and services (as it's done in some other countries). That will be far less awkward and unpleasant than this "tipping" game.

They are fine when they are at the right places. I don't want to see them at fancy resturants. I see them at ice cream places and i'm fine with giving the workers there a tip...they actually do things to get the tips.
They are placing tip cups everywhere now, and are getting out of hand. I'm waiting for them to be put up at stores....

"Tip cups" are abhorent for the same reason gift registries are: they assume that someone wants to give a gift. IF I feel that your service is explemplary, I MIGHT give you extra money. A tip cup makes the assumption that I will of course tip you regardless of your service, which is wrong.

Totally against. Maybe we should start tipping the person that delivers our mail. This tipping thing is out of hand.

Its a great way for a child to transition from bottle to cup; it also is nice later on when you don't want spills on special furniture or in the car, sort of like a thermos. Really is nice and lets the children feel independent.

Being a waitress, or piano guy, tip cups make them money. usually people working for tips, only make between 2.15, and 3.00 and hr, so tipping helps them pay their bills, i always tip!!!

They are okay as long at they dint use those styrofoam cups and write "TIPS" with a big black marker. Those things are an eye sore.

I'm for it because those people are doing the same work but making less money then waiters and waitresses.
