No, people socialize at all ages with people of their own sex and with the opposite sex. If you set boundaries and keep things age-appropriate and the kids know what to expect, why not?

People get all crazy about it just because they are afraid dating means sex is right around the corner. My son, now 14, had a girl for a friend his whole life. As soon as she turned 11, her parents killed any contact with boys and acted like she'd have sex if they let her out of the house to go anywhere where there might be boys. Now she sneaks out. My son, on the other hand, has many friends who are girls, has been on "dates" and isn't real anxious to get serious with anyone. It is all about having fun. Just because it is called a "date" doesn't mean everyone should panic. People need to practice for real relationships, so what is the harm?

Spending time having fun with the opposite sex is fine at any age as long as one keeps his/her goals in mind, keeps their self-respect, and is honest.

Best of luck.

I would think anything before/during college level is too young to actually take dating seriously. It is not likely that you will find your future spouse before you even get out into the world and get a job or go to school on your own. That is my opinion, dating during teenage years doesn't really get serious, it is more about crushes rather than love.

You are only 11-12yrs of age. I would say Yes, grade 6 is way too young to date. If you go with a group of friends to skate and your "male" friend is there with other friends, it's kinda like a "date" but you're with a group of people.
Wait until you're older to start "dating". Just have fun with your friends

Yes. Most "relationships" don't last in that age because 6th graders don't know what love is.. It's more of a joke.. 6th graders are immature and don't know what they want anyway. Wait til about 8th or 9th grade.. thats when you start growing up and realizing whats going on in the world..

It sure is!!

It isn't too young to like someone, though, and I found that some of my most "magical" relationships were the ones that I had when I was too young to date, and those relationships had to be limited to seeing the other person in school and talking on the phone.

6th grade is old enough to go to supervised boy-girl parties, and to go on group dates to pizza places, bowling, the movies, the mall, etc. If there is still such a thing as school or church dances, 6th graders are probably old enough to attend.

If you want to go out with just one person, parents will probably want to be there--or at least drive you to a pre-approved destination where there will be chaperons.
