Hello,

I live in San Rafael, CA and might get a job in the city of San Mateo. What is the commute time during commute hours in the morning and evening? Is there a public transportation availabe?

Thank you.

This would be very dependant on the hours you work. My office is just south of San Mateo in the Redwood Shores area, and while I do not commute from Marin, I have a couple friends here that do make that trip everyday. Both of them work hours that have them normally arrive here in the office before 7am - they normally commute by car and I don't think there are any easy (or quick) public transits routes that will over that distance.

From what I know, this is a hellish commute, and one that can really only work if you are coming at non-peak hours: at an earlier job in that area, we had a guy that would also come in early... and if he did not get out of the office by 3pm to start the return trip to San Rafeal, he would stay and work until 7pm (because if he left any time after 3pm, he'd get home at basically the same time as if he left at 7pm!).

It's doable, but I'd think it would need to be a great job offer, and have some flexibility with the hours to help on the commute.
