I just can't believe how stupid some people who answer questions here can be. The poor girl asked a sincere question, kindly give her a sincere answer, like this one:

Most dogs will not pee or poo where they sleep. Get a kennel that's the right size for the puppy. Leave her in there for increasing periods of time. You need to train yourself as well as the puppy that when that kennel door opens, it's time to go outside...right now. Also, depending on the breed of the dog, being excited can cause a loss of bladder muscle control. Try to avoid situations where the puppy could become overly excited. If this happens, DON'T punish the puppy, it's not her fault. Just clean it up and move on.

If you catch the puppy peeing in the house (you have to catch her, after the fact is useless, just clean it up) Sternly tell her "NO!" or "OUTSIDE!" She'll get the hang of it within a couple weeks.
The most important thing is just getting you and the pup into a routine, once she's got it you're both good for life.

Good luck, God bless!

The best way to housebreak your puppy is to pay close attention and find the spot that she goes to the potty the most in and place newspaper in that spot. Slowly move the newspaper closer to the door that you will using to take her out to the potty at. They also have puppy training pads that are more absorbent then newspaper if that doesn't work for you. You can find them on line at carealot.com or petsmart.com. If you must take her out just pick her up until she is big enough.

It might be cold outside, but the only way to train your pup is to go outside with her...it's a must! This is how you reinforce that going potty outside is a good thing. Everytime she squats say do you have to go outside, go outside (carrying her down the steps) and put her in the potty place (if you want a specific area), say time to go outside or potty or whichever command you want to use, wait 5 minutes...if no potty then come back inside right away and repeat if the squatting happens again...if she does go in the five minutes outside, reward her with praise...good outside, good potty then come right back in....works like a charm...she'll catch on quickly. Try to grin and bare the cold for the five mins ur outside...otherwise ur hooped...I don't suggest potty pads as that only teaches her it's good to go inside!

What I found worked best for my dog is everytime I let him out I would watch him. If I saw him go potty, I gave him a treat. And then when he went in the house, his nose was rubbed in it. Then I made him watch me clean it up so he would know that isn't suppose to be there and it makes me angry. Then throw him outside for long enough for him to really appreciate being inside. During the winter my dog is a total wuss. So every winter I have to retrain him so he knows that the faster he gets his buisness done, the faster he gets to come inside and gets a treat. Try this method. Like I said, it was pretty much the only thing that worked for my dog. He learned really quickly with this.

the weather should not make a difference on how to housetrain a puppy... you still need to let her pee. Take her out every 5 minutes if she is squatting every 5 minutes!
Or you can try now to get her used to wearing a sweater or jacket.

I know some people won't agree but I used wee wee pads on my little girl bichon. They are attracted to the pad by some enzyme it is enhanced with and will squat on the mat wherever you put it. When she can get down the step put it out in the yard and she will go to it out there. Leave the mat outside for long enough so that she gets used to going outside and then take it away. Done.

You have to take her outside. If you do not train her while she is young she will not be easily trained when she is older. Physically take her out. Use the kennel or crate method. Put her in her crate over night. In the morning immediately take her out to potty. Nice long walk. Then watch her during the day after she drinks and/or eats take her out and walk her. When you leave put her in the crate and take her outside as soon as you let her out when you get home. Most importantly buy an enzyme pet urine/odor neutralizer at the pet store. If she can smell where she peed inside she will continue to go inside. Its not her job to take herself out right not. its your job, cold or not.

same exact way as in any other weather,,, crate train her,, then you will be taking her outside after coming out of the crate, after eating, after sleeping, after playing and every few hours.. you need to bring her out on a leash,, when she goes praise her and go back inside when it is warm,,,,,,

Yeah I agree that the best thing to do is take her outside. But if this is not possible you may want to investigate this - http://www.dog-obedience-training-review.com/puppy-housebreaking.html

buy potty pads and train her on pads. then when the weather warms up you put the pads outside for a while then she will start to be used to going outside then stop using the pads. you can get them almost anywhere they sell pet supplies.
