Depends what do you want to do with that.
Builders count all levels and all areas including closets, basements, walls, even porch, etc.
It is gross SF
Living area SF does not include stairs, etc.
For heating. Consider rooms, only

Measure the rooms (length times width equals sq feet.). Then add up the totals.

Don't know where Zelman learnt his maths but 60ish by 60ish is 3600 ish not 360ish . You did say apartment didn't you 385 sq ft. That would barely be described as a bed sit. That's two rooms 12ft by 15 ft. Not very big but in Tokio it might suffice. Must be a university dorm situation . Good luck

Divide your apartment into rectangles. Measure the length and width of the rectangles and multiply. Then add up the results of all calculations.
