As a teen, they don't have to cook. Their parents do everything for them, or if they have $5 they can just go over to a McDonald's and grab a meal. Even when they're adults, there are so many way to avoid cooking. Fast food, restaurants, and frozen dinners make it unnecessary to learn how to cook now.

Whoa!!! Lots of put downs for the teens going on in here! First of all, nearly everyone can learn how to cook, and SHOULD learn how to make some sort of food. Sort of like learning to do your own laundry, sew on a button, manage a checking account. All are life skills that should be taught as kids grow up. Now, not all people have an affinity for cooking, or a passion so to speak. If you enjoy cooking, or watching a family member in the kitchen, then most likely you'll like doing it yourself. But if you'd rather be doing anything else BUT, then you're probably going to appreciate that microwaves and take-out were created! Sometimes cooking can be intimidating to kids, and they become afraid they'll fail at it. But, you've got to give it a shot and see just how creative you can be in the kitchen. And, I suppose its true, some parents raise their kids to be spoiled, lazy, and dependent....and then they get what they have created when the kids don't want to leave home!

I think sometimes (sometimes!) it can be the same as anything
else...auto repair, computer stuff, house cleaning, laundry, yard work...people just fall in a groove of depending upon someone else
to do somethings for them and not trying themselves because they
don't like it or they are not happy with the results if they do it themselves and they are too proud to admit that either they don't
like it , are too lazy, or that they don't know how to do it like you
do (how's that for a run on sentence?). So, just ask them to help you and gently show them the details
of what you do...genlty. If they really like eating, they'll figure it out.
I think that sometimes, those who know how to do something forget
the small details that they take for granted when doing it. On the other hand, some folks are just lazy or proud and you have to let them fail first before they are accepting of the knowledge of others.

A good exercise...go camping together...then you'll have to rely upon the abilities of others to get things done..and there are no
distractions...just building a fire and cooking a meal are the
only entertainment. Same as being stranded on an isolated road
in a broken down car.

Refrain from restaurants. No money for fast food.

My mother hated to cook. She was a graduate of the Dinner in a Box School of Cooking. It's possible some teenagers' mothers are the same way.

I don't think I cooked anything completely from scratch until I was in my early thirties!

Why can't you learn proper English?

Teens do not try cook because their parents spoil them rotten, feed & clothe them way past 18 & don't expect much from them at all.

Bad parents. Bad.

cause they are lazy and lack the initiative to do anything for themselves although there are teens that will cook when asked.

Indeed, they probably view it with as much disdain as attempting to learn good grammar. But I digress...

Because they'd rather be out gettin' pregnant, and then posting a question on here like.....duh...I haven't had my period in 8 months. Is that normal?
