It really depends on the Officer not if it's a small town or not. My first training session with my old FTO was one night when he went to a house with a new pair of size 5 winter boots. He got out of the cruiser and said "I'll be right back". He was gone about 10 minutes and I got a little worried about him. I found him a very run down house having a cup of coffee with an old woman. She also invited me in and come to find out that my FTO had seen her Grandson walking to school that morning with a beat up old pair of boots that had all kinds of holes in them. He went and guessed his size, bought him a new pair and dropped them off at the Grandmothers place where he saw the kid go after school. That FTO taught me that people are not all bad and that sometimes they just need a warm smile and wave. Over the years we had our share of pricks to deal with, but I never forgot that Officer or what he did for that kid, and yes, it was a small town department.

Wait, your son is a 'her'? Hopefully just a typo.
Anyway, did the cops come over for some tea, or are you wondering if they would come over for tea? That's not very clear.
As to answer your question, I don't know about the cops you have, but in our 'small town', the cops are so useless, cowardly and lazy that someone had broke into our neighbors house and stole money. They told her that they don't do fingerprints and she'd have to pay another county to get someone to do that! They never solve crimes (there is a HUGE drug trade right down the street from the cop station and they don't even care). If you ever want to commit a crime and get away with it, do it in the country. They don't care at all. Oh, unless you mess with their pals of course.

So your son went missing and you reported 'her' missing huh? As a co-worker always says; "Whatever."
But when I worked for a smaller agency, I made offers like that to some of the elderly and some of the frequent flyers who were obviously depressed and always calling for a cop. Made a world of difference for them, hopefully it helped you when they did it. But truth told, you might be better served calling your minister or pastor. Odds of getting the same cop are far and few between. Not all of us are as understanding. But if talk to someone you must, then do what ya gotta do. They offered.

All cops will do this. It's called a well check, meaning they are checking your well being. See, contrary to what some people say about cops, they are very much human just like the rest of us, but they have to put up with a bunch of low lifes on a daily basis.

Most of the cops in my town care alot about people. The station on a whole pulls together throughout the year for community benefits (We have shop with a cop for Christmas). I would trust them, but keep in mind that they have a city to protect and don't have time to come over everyday for a chat.

Small towns are becoming less and less small nowadays. I lived in a small town for several years....the doctor made house calls, as did the vet. We didn't have locks on our doors or windows and people rarely knocked before they came in (good friends only).
The police would come by and check on many people, those ill and alone, and those on vacation.
It isn't like that any longer, though. If your town is still in small-town mode, enjoy it while you can....and trust the police.

Depends on where you are from. In Singapore our police officers do when you phone them, and usually within reasonably short time too. Although they may not just pop-in to have a cup of tea or coffee.

If professionals, including policemen/women are worried about your mental health, and you break down on the phone, they do come to check up on you to make sure you won't hurt yourself or hurt someone else.
Clinicians also call police if they have patients that are at a danger to themselves and they need to get them to a hospital for help.

small town police are a lot kinder than city cops - they actually have a chance to get to know the people they protect and tend to actually care! If you need their assistance, give it a shot - they'll probably need to keep their radio on, but I'll bet they'd love to sit down for some coffee
