then why does it seem that as a Chriatain, i have been less and less tolerated for my views by the very people pressing tolerance. an example, a kid at school got mad at me for disagreeing with gay marriage. he was accusing me of being a homo phobe (im not, i have a good friend that is lesbian/bi im not sure which it is now) he was saying things like i need tolerance, to embrace differant views, I AGREE STOP TRYING TO CHANGE MY VIEWS, im tired of being called intolerant, by people not being tolerant of my religion. isnt that the best example of when you point a finger you have three back at you?

The definition of tolerance is to "permit, to recognize and respect another viewpoint or opinion." Agree to disagree. It means to state your point of view and let others state their points of view without judgment and drop it. It means to not try to make the other person swing your way, which is called arguing the point. Formal debates are an organized form of arguing your viewpoint to win with specific rules of engagement. Social exchanges should never cross over into a debate or agrument.

Tolerance is just accepting that someone else views the same concept or situation differently. If you really feel that another person is trying to change your viewpoint and not respecting your view, then just say" I agree with you to disagree about this point or topic" and refuse to give in or discuss it any further. You believe differently. You can even say: I won't argue the point and we have gone beyond the point of open, honest discussion. If none of the above works, then just say politely: drop it. I'm done for now. Then walk away.
