Each decision we make is determinded by what we are currently going through. Some can handle it better than others. Some cannot control there inner issues and make very bad decisions that result in bad events we term as "sin". Do you think God factors in what we can't and forgives so much more because the person is not as responisble as "we" think? Note: Not looking for excuses. Just thinking some times much more is going on in the inner person we know nothing about.

Ask this way, anger is the leading cause of murders and war. Those who get "captured" by this mental state and commits wrong are labled sinners by those who do not have this problem. Just think for your self things you do not fall short in is so easy to point and say "why can't they get it togther"?

Sin means to "miss the mark." This is inherited. Romans 5:12
So regardless of your mental state of mind, or your physical or emotional well being, we are all sinners and need the Ransom Sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

Sin requires intent, and that requires knowledge. In the Genesis story, God attempted to keep Adam and Eve away from the Tree of Knowledge to keep them sinless in a child-like way; they didn't listen, and so becase they learned the difference, they BECAME accountable. It logically follows that a person with Down Syndrome does NOT know the different in most cases, and is therefore NOT accountable. Genesis is all the reference you need, because that's the story it tells. Whether you're going to take the story literally, or as a metaphor, I'd say it makes abundantly clear the notion that knowledge of right and wrong is necessary for sin, and that those who cannont understand the difference are not accountable for it. If you require more than that, I'm afraid I can't help you. I hope that whoever your loved one with Down Syndrome is, you will not feel that he or she is unloved by God; indeed, perhaps he/she is, in a sense, luckier than the rest of us. We have to work harder because we DO know the difference, and most of us don't come anywhere close to sinlessness.

God is fair and He does not hold accountable those who cannot be. Children, mental illnesses and those in other countries who never heard of Him. He is a fair God and would not do something unfair to a human. If you are a Christian and then you get Alzheimer's, and then you say or do things contrary to the Christian life, you will be judged on how you were before the illness, not after. God knows our hearts, most importantly. He sees the inside of us and our motives. There is always more going on with people than we know. What we see on the outside, may not be what's going on in their minds or lives. That's why God says not to judge others because you just don't know what's going on with anyone.

I don't know for sure but I've seen those that have been handed labels be able to control their actions depending on who is around them. I've had experience with this in my family and believe me they know who they can rage at/get abusive with and who won't put up with it. I'm not sure how God sees that part of it or the other behaviors like verbalizing they can do what ever they please to people because they have this and that and if you stand your personal ground everything you say is abusive... I really don't care. It really does make me wonder what God thinks when there is bragging involved.

The real question is does this person know the difference between right and wrong. If he/she knows its a sin and still commits it then it is a sin to them.
WE (humans) have all fallen short of the glory of god and sin, we are saved by the grace of God. If we believe Jesus is the Son of God who died on the cross of calvary for our sins and rose again from the dead on the third day we are saved. We simply need to pray to God and ask him to forgive for our sins and confirm that Jesus died for your sins.

PS: I have drug induced psychosis or so the doctor says... I know the difference between good and evil. I try and choose good but as a sinner i do choose to do evil sometimes..when I mess up I repent for my sins to God.

No. Those who are unable to make the decision whether to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior or deny will go to Heaven. God is a Just God. The same goes for children under the age of accountability. The age of accountability is different for each child.

In order for something to be a sin, it has to be done with the full consent and understanding of the person committing it. Since a mentally ill person cannot control his actions and doesn't fully understand them, then he doesn't fit the definition of a sinner.
