Limewire is as safe as you make it. You can download a virus but you can avoid it with common sense.

First do not believe it when someone says "Limewire contains viruses". Limewire is simply a software program. It doesn't contain any files for you to download nor do they have any on their web site to download.

What Limewire lets you do is connect to thousands of other computers that are offering to share files. When you search for a file Limewire finds computers that have that filename. When you select download it connects you to anywhere from one to 10 computers and you download the file. These files come from ordinary people like you & me.

If one of these computers sends you a virus it didn't come from Limewire.

Using common sense you can avoid a virus. If you want to download a song you should know the extention will be .mp3 and the length for a normal song will be from about 3 to 6 meg. If you see a file with a EXE entention you should know better then to select it. If you see your song and the file size is 140K you should know better then to select it.

Last but not least you shouldn't be downloading files if you haven't got an anti virus program running.

With just a little common sence you can download to your hearts content without a problem and there are no adverse effects on your computer.

Music quality is good and you can see the bitrate songs were recorded at so you can choose best quality.

Limewire is free for the basic version. Give it a try.

Limewire is a Peer2Peer file sharing network.
When you install and run the program it creates a "default" 'sharing' and 'Incomplete' folders that it uses to share with other P2P users around the planet.
It's as safe as your firewall and anti-virus will allow. But staying away from dodgy filenames, as you would with emails, would probably be a good practice.
Any adverse effects depend on the security of the previously mentioned settings. (personally, I've had no probs)
The quality is GREAT as with any MP3s and similar files.

No, it's not safe. The files you get from other people could have anything attached to them. There was a news story on the other day about a teenager who was using a music sharing site, it didn't say which site. Apparently pedophiles often attach their child pornography to music files, and people inadvertently end up with the child porn on their computer. The kid on the news actually got tried and convicted, and he didn't even know the porn was on his computer in a hidden file. An expert was eventually able to track the path of the porn and prove it hadn't come from the teenager, but he and his family went through a lot of anguish and he had to register as a sex offender. A friend of mine also got some child porn put into her computer by downloading music, thankfully she was able to find it and delete it from her computer. I used to use lime-wire, but after I found out what could happen, I've decided it's just not worth. it.

All up to the user sums what you just said and trial and error, also scan everything before you use it. And if your not downloading close it. Its safe to use. The music is good I mean its free so don't be bitching about it.

Is it safe? Well.. it depends on what you want to use it for. If you want to download stuff illegally.. well. the answer is no.

Also.. you could be downloading spyware and viruses with out even knowing it.
