Do you honestly believe anyone would invest millions or billions to ever create that drug if there was no way to recoup the cost? The companies only have a monopoly on those things for a set time before it can be produced as a generic which limits the time they can quickly make any return on their investment. Right or not, it is an example of how capitalism is supposed to work.

First if that is your case, have you contacted the drug company that manufactures your medicine? Most drug companies will provide their medications to those that cannot afford it. Don't hear about that much do you? Also, Montel Williams ia a spokesperson for APA, which donates drugs at little or no cost.

Hmmm, let's look at this another way... why would you pay money to develop and produce a drug unless you were going to profit from it? Life or death is a serious issue, and if a drug is REQUIRED for you to live, I am sure there are legitimate ways to get it, but don't assume it's the government's or the drug manufacturer's responsibility to do it for you. Research your options and find one that works for you.

No, the government isn't saying that. The drug manufacturers are the ones who are saying that...they are the ones who insist on earning money for the products they're making (a shocking concept in a capitalist society, I know!).
I've seen ads from a couple of the pharmaceutical companies recently, saying that if you can't afford your meds, to contact them, and they might be able to help. Have you looked into that option?

Why do you have to pay for food? Or shelter? Or clothing? The government isn't saying that you must pay or die. You must take responsibility for your own maintenance, including, if necessary, purchasing life saving drugs. It is no one else's job.

Simple: In a word; PROFIT. Life is cheap in the U.S. Do you think your government really cares whether you live or die? Enough to pay for your medications?
Until people in the US smarten up and demand Universal Healthcare such as they have in all of Canada and Europe, we Americans will continue to have to go broke, and die in debt, trying to pay for over-priced medications.
Why are the same drugs much, much cheaper in Canada than in the US? Why are there millions of people who cannot even afford basic health insurance in the US, and not one in Canada ? Yet why does the population in the U.S. spend 35% more than the amount on healthcare per person than in Canada ?
The United States spends more per capita on health care than the government does in Canada. In 2003, the government of Canada spent $1886 (in US dollars) per person on health care, while the United States government spent $2548
Despite the American government paying more per capita, private sources also pay far more for health care in the United States. In Canada an average of $630 dollars is spent annually by individuals or private insurance companies for health care, including dental, eye care, and drugs. In the United States this number is $2719. In 2001 the United States spent in total 13.6% of its annual GDP on health care. In Canada only 9.5% of the GDP was spent on health care.
The Canadian system also takes advantage of centralized buying of drugs and medicines by the provincial governments that have more market heft and buy in bulk, lowering prices.
The US has explicit laws that prohibit Medicare or Medicaid from negotiating drug prices !!!!
[But people in the US don't want to accept these hard truths. We prefer to blame people for getting sick, for not having enough money to pay outrageous fees. People here believe the lies the companies/politicians push that the richest gov't on the planet can't "Afford" your healthcare. You'll notice this answer getting many negative 'Thumbs downs' from people]
Keeping asking these questions...!

Most people want paying when they go to work. People working for drug companies are no different. Even in the NHS, we pay through our taxes.

What do you want, me to pay for it for you? Maybe you should start saving your money for things like that.
I'll bet you're on some kind of welfare right now. Probably overweight and miserably out of shape too from never working, just a guess.

Well, being alive is a good thing. At least, I think so. Maybe being dead is better. I guess it depends who you ask. Anway, since being alive is a good thing and sometimes people will pay money for a good thing, sometimes you have to pay to get that good thing.
