Why do we think that Jesus died on Good Friday?
Personally, I believe it was Thursday, and here's why:
Jesus was crucified Thursday before Sundown, stayed Thursday night, Friday, Friday night, Saturday, Saturday night and then left early Sunday morning at dawn. Remember, the Jews count the beginning of a day at sundown, not sunrise.
3 Days:
Sometime Thursday before Sundown
Friday....12 hours (6 to 6)
Saturday....12 hours (6 to 6)
3 Nights
Thursday night....12 hours (6 to 6)
Friday night....12 hours (6 to 6)
Saturday night....12 hours (6 to 6)
This time frame would not have to be a specific 72 hour period, but it would have to be a minimum of 60 hours + additional hours.
Jesus died at 3:00 Thursday afternoon. Passover was that evening. Thursday itself was called "The Preparation Day". The 7 Day feast of Unleavened Bread began at Sundown that evening with a Passover meal . That same sundown Thursday evening began their Sabbath-High-Holy Day rest. This was not their Saturday-Sabbath rest, which starts on Friday evening. This was their High-Holy-Day-of-Rest, the feast of Unleavened Bread.
You can look at Leviticus 23 for the order of the week.

If Jesus had died and remained in the grave, it would be the end of our Christian story. Period. .
"If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith". (1 Cor. 15:14)
However, Jesus rose from the dead -- after which he and the Father has sent us the Holy Spirit. He triumped over evil -- and so can we. And so Easter is the greatest feast of the Church's year.
Good Friday is called "Good" because Jesus' death reconciled us with the Father. The ancient Catholic prayer -- called the Exultet -- which is joyfully proclaimed in churches around the world at the Easter Vigil Liturgy has the line that says, "O happy fault...O necessary sin of Adam...that gained for us so great a Redeemer!"

If Jesus hadn't resurrected the following Sunday, the Cross would have no meaning. The resurrection proves that Jesus was indeed sinless and the Son of God. Personally, I think Pentecost should be the greatest holiday because the Holy Spirit gives us the power to live our salvation!

That is the only day that Jehovah's witnesses pick out of the year to remember. The anniversary of the death of Christ for the very reason you mentioned. His resurrection is wonderful but that was his reward for faithfullness, his reason for coming was to give sinners the opportunity to put faith in his sacrifice and be forgiven for their sins therefore gaining life.
I just want to say I will not get into mud slinging with anyone, You will never find a message from me attacking anyone nor their beliefs and I would appreciate the same respect.

You are right to say that it is the day that Jesus died so we could all be forgiven- but if He was not resurrected it would have been in vain- think about it this way- how can we be victorious over sin and death if Jesus is not alive?

it is going to be stable Thursday. it is impossible to in fantastic condition 3 days to the resurrection from Friday to Sunday. it is stable while you evaluate that's while the finished artwork of salvation befell. He died and rose back using fact the 1st end results of many brethren. as quickly as we settle for what He did we share in what He earned. eternal existence!! Easter bunnies have not something to do with this experience. they seem to be a pagan party of fertility imposed in this sacred day.

Or Easter Sunday? The day he rose again!!!
It used to be before the Victorian time - I guess people need to have a big celebration in the middle of winter - perhaps we should have put the celebration of Jesus' death and resurection in the heart of winter instead?

Matthew 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
So Good Friday supposedly marks when Christ was murdered, and Easter Sunday supposedly is when he arose...let's see...
Friday eve to Saturday eve = 1 day
Saturday eve to Sunday eve = 2 days
Sunday eve to Monday eve = 3 days...EASTER MONDAY!!!
...Whoops...somebody miscounted...
2Timothy 2:15;Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Always be seekers of truth, not traditional falacies.

First, not everybody is a Christian. Second, Jesus' death is not the most important thing in Christianity; his resurrection is. Men die all the time, not one, but Jesus, who is both God and man, was able to raise himself from the dead and go up to heaven on his on accord. We celebrate that on Ascension Thursday. Jesus' death would have meant nothing and would not have been remembered had he not risen on Easter.
