The fact that they burn off the bad food anyway isn't a fact anymore. I went to a nephews football practice this fall and was amazed at the number of fat kids there. It's lack of exercise for the most part. But as to your question you should get them into the habit of liking and choosing the good food over the bad food. It got to the point that by the time my kids were in their teens I could have a bowl of candy sitting next to a bowl of fruit and I would end up having to refill the bowl of fruit 3 or 4 times before we even got anywhere near the bottom of the candy bowl. Truthfully most of the candy was consumed by my children's visiting friends who claimed their parents never would allow candy in the house. I always keep both around...that way the candy/cake etc. isn't "special". I am raising my grandson now and he is 7 and already making good choices. At a school party they were passing out cupcakes and he said "No thank you, I have an apple!"..It's not that I deny him the goodies it's just that he started out on the good stuff and prefers an apple over cake!

I think we've done a pretty good job. Our oldest is jsut about 3 and he actually prefers broccholi and most of his veggies over junk food like pizza and other stuff like that. I think we've had the success we've had because we started introducing the good stuff to him when he was young and have really only started allowing some of the other things every once in a while as a special treat.

Oh yes, they get brocolli, carrots and such from when they start eating on. It is easier when younger than older. I've seen my freinds fight this fight.

Not that I'm against snacks - but that can wait until they've developed a taste for veggies. Carrots were all of my childrens first favorite. One is still carrots the others crave broccoli.

My kids didn't even know restraunts offed french fries with kids meals until they could read cause I always substitued brocolli or green beans, or corn.

Well. My girls eat vergetables every other day. They eat fruit every day, my 2y/o loves bananas, she stole the whole bunch of the hanger lol, out of 8, she ate 5 in one day, she loves them so much.
I make sure she gets plenty of fluids. Oh and tortellini is her fav!
I ordered chinese today. I don't think it hurts to splurge on "good food" lol
I'm not a good example to my kids for eating. I hate vegetables, well, all except corn and potatoes.
My husband on the other hand loves spinach and green beans and my 2y/o wants to do everything just like daddy lol so she eats spinach too - yuck!
We don't order out alot, maybe once a fortnight. My kids don't have sodas - my 2y/o may get a sip from time to time. She gets candy once a week.
I do how concern for their diets, i don't want it to be poor, and i definately don't want them to have weight problems at a young age, the one thing i am totally, and absaloutly crazy anal about is their teeth! hence, not much candy or soda's!!!
I think it's okay for a child to have a taco or pizza from time to time, not all the time, just sometimes.

Sure! Cheetos don't have alot of vitamins like fruits and veggies, and they have bad fats! I think it's better to make healthy food a habit in the first place. If they need more calories it's better for them to eat more protein or fruit than spaghettios and doritios!

You have to if you feed your child junk until age a certain age they are not going to just change their eating habits you need to provide healthy foods not low fat for a child, that is tha only way to help prevent child/teen & adult obesity in your child. Eating habits are taught young & are very hard to change

From the beginning. Now my school age children can have a sweet snack or treat only if they have a healthy one first. I don't buy chips/cheesies, and junk food. A treat for them is dried fruit or fruit juice gummie bears, etc.

Yes...I start with mine at age two to three, where he and she can roughly understand the meaning of good eating habit and can ejoy them, for an example I encourage my daughter to eat raw carrots and she loves them for a snack ;)

No, you enable them to consume junk until eventually they blow up and on the instant they turn 15 tell them, "ok -- it's time to benefit approximately greens!" heavily -- the extra youthful a guy or woman is to benefit something, the less demanding that's to stay with those practices.

my moto is, get the good stuff down them while you can.

Teach them about a good varied diet, let them help you cook, they may faulter when older, but always go back to a good diet

Healthy eating = Healthy Heart, better concerntration, better performance at school at sport, brain still forming when young, not as ill, won't be over weight.
