Apply for Medi-Cal or medical assistance at your local welfare office. Some states call it human resources departments. You may qualify for dental assistance, depending on you financial situation. I know how difficult poor teeth can be. Good luck.

If you qualify for Medicaid or Medical Assistance (different names in different states) that will cover necessary (non cosmetic) dental work. Call your local Dept of Welfare or get the link from your state website (www.state.__.us) for financial criteria. Some states have an additional service where if you make too much for medical assistance, they have a low cost insurance program where you pay a premium and copays for the insurance.

I've never heard of such a thing.

You will have to work out a payment plan with the orthodontist.
