Duh, get up earlier or go to sleep later. Travel east during the night to a new time zone. Have a custom alarm clock made for yourself with less hours on it during the night. Be awake for more than 16 hours a day. Invent a time machine. Learn magic. Make a wish. Pray.

There are a couple of ways to answer this question depending on how you interpret it:
1. If you want to sleep less than eight hours, then the best thing to do is to set an alarm clock.
2. If you are wondering why it is you are sleeping less than eight hours, there are a variety of factors than can interfere with your sleep including: improper sleeping habits - do you go to bed at the same time, sleep in a quiet room, avoid caffeine or strenuous activity before going to sleep, etc.
The bottom line is that some people need less than eight hours, some people need more than eight hours of sleep.
Good luck!

You _can_ sleep less than 8 hours. The only issue lies in whether it's healthy or not.
If you can avoid it, don't sleep less than 8 hours. If you just want to not sleep for a single day, Caffine will generally do the trick. That'll help you pull an all nighter to finish that term paper or whatever.
However, if you want to permanently reduce your sleep time, you can look into something called polyphasic sleep. It's a technique that completely screws with your circadian rhythm to reduce sleeptime to 2-5 hours per day. However, it is indeed risky, and you may feel horrible while trying to adjust your sleep cycle. The general principal lies in sleeping for 45 minutes every few hours.
It's rather risky, and if you want to do it, I suggest doing a lot of research on the topic first.

There is a sleeping pattern called the "Uberman Sleep". How it work is you stay up for 4 hours then you take a 20-45 minute nap and repeat. It can be hard at times to work your schedule around this, if you miss one nap you will crash hard. It takes about a week or two for your body to get the feel of this new sleep pattern. Once you get the hang of it you will have a lot of free time one your hands to do whatever you want. I did this sleep pattern for about a month has an experiment until I could not work my schedule around it any more. Worth trying if you want more free time.

Simple. You may decide to work until one o'clock in the night and then get up at six o'clock in the morning.
The good old Pope was reported to go to bed at two o'clock in the night and so get up at five o'clock in the morning for his morning prayers. And then he went on working the whole day long, again until two o'clock in the night.
Anyway, human beings from prehistory learned the habit of going to sleep quite late in the evening because they should do a lot of preparations for the night. They should work a lot to make sure that their abode was kind of safe for the night against wild beasts and murderous human foes.
Going to bed to sleep not much later than midnight may be good for your health. Sleeping from midnight on, until six or seven in the morning (six-seven hours) may make you feel mentally fresh the whole day long no matter what job you have - it may make you have the fiercy bright glow of healthy life in your face.
All living creatures get some hours of sleep at night or during day, according to their specific strategy of life.

Hire someone to dump ice-water on you anytime that you start to fall asleep...or if you want to save water, they could just slap you.
