I've always wanted a tatoo, but always laked money, or time to do it. A few years back I went through an operation, they replaced one of the valves in my heart with a mechanical one (its not as bad as it sounds, it was just a minor congenit problem that had to be taken care of, I lead a perfectly normal healthy life). The only thing is that now I have to take oral anti-coagulant (don't know if the name is accurate), anyway, a medicine that prevents my blood from coagulate. Doctors say I can't get a tatoo, and they wont tell me why (well, that much I can guess), do any of you know if there is a way in which it could be done??

Sorry love but the fact that you are on an anti-coagulant means the answer is NO. The reason being that the meds you are on will NOT let your blood clot this way your heart wont stop. But since getting a tat means that needles go in and out and produce bleeding which you would not be able to stop and then could be the last thing you would ever do so if you think that trying is worth dying over, and besides an artist asks you things that would lead to this coming out and any good one would stop the procedure there as well if you think about they wont tat people who are drunk or have been drinking due to the fact that it thins out the blood just like your meds so if you want something that looks real but wont kill you try henna ink tattoos they are semi permanet and dont involve needles

ok the reason why the doctor told you not to get one is because the blood will keep coming! the issue is that you need your blood to clot in order for tattoo to heal correctly. if you get a tattoo you would cause yourself to lose alot of blood. a tattoo is still an open wound and the ink might not look the same after all of that! So save yourself some trouble and leave the tattoos alone!

I would'nt suggest getting one, any licensed tattooist has you sign a release that you have no heart problems ,bleeding disorders, etc, for a reason. and you happen to have both. if you did find someone to do a tattoo on you your blood would not coagulate and youd be stuck with a messed up looking tattoo for the rest of your life.

Getting one isn't a good idea.. The medicine you are taking basically stops your blood from clotting.. which means when you get your tattoo it will bleed a little but for you it make be hard to stop the bleeding cause a not so good thing..

well an anticoagulant keeps your blood from clotting. what happens when you get a cut? does it bleed profusely? do you scar badly? does your skin take an abnormal amount of time to heal? basically a tattoo is injuring your skin and it will bleed, especially if you take medication that keeps it from clotting. also the skin will need to be able to heal properly or the tattoo may not look good. i hope you are able to find the answers you are looking for.

You shouldn't get a tattoo because you would bleed alot and the artist would not be able to do his/her work due to the volume of blood. That is why you can't get a tattoo. It's not because you would bleed to DEATH like the person above said...God! that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard! A tattoo does not go deep enough to cause fatal bleeding, even if you are on a blood thinner. You would just bleed so much that the artist would not be able to finish a tattoo on you.

Any real tattoo shop will have so much art to choose from it's not even funny. They can also draw like mad - so your imagination is the limits. Dont get a tramp stamp - all girls have them. Instead get a small piece on your ankle or something

If you're taking coumadin, having a tattoo could prove to be fatal. It's an anti-coagulant which would directly contradict what you want your blood to do during a tattoo, and you COULD possibly bleed to death in the artist's studio, or on your way home.

NOT WORTH IT. DON'T DO IT.

Try seeing a different doctor and find out what they say. If everyone says no, then dont get a tattoo, im sure theres a good reason.
