$100 over invoice is a very fair price and still lets the dealer make a little money. As long as its not a high demand vehicle. Find out what your credit rating is and what interest rate you think you deserve. If yoiu have a 700 or higher equifax score, you should get around 6 or 7 percent apr, depending on the term of the loan. And find out what rebates and special finance options are available. Be reasonable too. The terrible car people have to make a living too! We dont spend 60 hours a week at the dealership to make no money.Do you go to work not to make a profit or to lose money? Please keeep that in mind. And dont go in right as the store is closing. You wont get the best deal because if we have to be there late, you will pay more. Good luck.

First figure out what exactly you want. I mean exactly as to the type of vehicle, the year, the model, each option you want, etc. Go to your nearest dealership for that vehicle and test drive it, run the car hard and get the most out of the your test drive. Don't drive back the lot until you think you have enough information on the car. Dont let them bully you into a 5 minute test drive or distract you from testing the car(turning the radio on, talking too much, etc). After you are done, go home, do not negotiate or buy.

After you know what you want and have made sure on your test drive, most dealerships have internet departments. Do your research and figure out what price you want to pay for your vehicle. Email all the dealerships in the area you are willing to travel to pick up the car. Tell them what you want, "all inclusive"(meaning all fees and taxes included in their quote). Tell them you only accept inclusive quotes and if they do not give it to you in that form, tell them you will go elsewhere. This prevents them from hiding the costs in extra taxes and fees. You know exactly the price you will pay because its all included. The only legit fee that they can claim to include is the destination charge.

You eventually will have a few dealers that will play ball and will bid against each other. You need to save the quotes and make sure they spell everything out online. Print it out before you go to that dealership. If they say you have to come to their lot, thats crap. The car is the same car on this lot or any other lot. The only thing that changes is the lot and the salesman. Sales people feel naked when they can't get you on their lot. It is all about numbers because you know exactly what you want.

I did exactly this. It took 4 weeks and many emails. I ended up with a 2007 Camry LE in the color I wanted, with lifetime lojack, floor and trunk mats, bumper protectant and all taxes and fees included for $21,350.

Don't let on that your interested. Ask for their best price because you are deciding between that car and another at another dealership. Tell the sales person that you wont ask for any more negotiation. If the price isnt good enough you will just go and buy the other one. Let them know you can pay a deposit there and then. Give them something to entice them.

as fireflysaid, learn everything there is to know about the product,use the internet for all of your research and make an offer, car dealers need to make money also, so figure out what is fair and offer the dealership the deal. Some cars are very in demand(hybrids) and dealerships will not deal on them good luck

Get as much information as you can about what you are buying and the motivation the seller has to sell. The more informed you are, the better you can negotiate anything.
