Yes, I believe they can. My mom stayed at home with me for 14 years of my life, however she was an entrepreneur, she had her own business, recently after my 15th birthday she managed to wind up with her own cafe and club. And I think she is very sucessful at it.

I think as far as a career you should do something you enjoy, so it doesn't seem like an everyday job. Even though you have children how much it pays, shouldn't be the first thing that comes to mind when you do. If you like it it is great, and it is even better if you can set your own hours or you they can be easily changed with out worry, or they adjust well to you and your child's schedule.

I believe If she has her mind set & has some experience or if not should get some schooling towards the Career she would want,.& yes I women can work and have a child, its a means for fianical and medical support for the child, got to pay bills, and roof over your heads, ect, but if can afford to stay home and enjoy being home then i say be home and enjoy the time with your child while they are young, they grow up too fast, hope this helps, or perhaps you can get a job for mothers hours , so you can have time with child and carreer,
Good luck
theirs also alot of home based schooling now too,
also when kids in school can work those hours too,

Seems like that Caroline (or whatever her name is) gal should have been here preaching to you already.....
Oh well....
Anyways, I think you should do whatever you are comfortable with and makes you happy. If you have worked hard at your career, and dont want to lose it, and dont think you'd be happy staying at home.. well, obviously a baby isnt going to benefit from a miserable mother.
If you think that you'd be devastated to leave and go to work, and you think you'd be happy at home with the baby, AND if you can FINANCIALLY afford it.. then stay home.
Life is different for everyone.. Im a SAHM, and on some days, I think Im nuts, and on others Im glad this is what Im able to do. But I dont think that just because I stay home, that everyone should.. it's a very personal choice.

In todays world, it is hard to live on one income. and there is nothing wrong with working. I think thats a decision that every person has to make on their own.....can they afford to stay home, do they want a career....I don't think both parents should be working 60 hours a week if they have kids but a steady 40hr a week job or even part time would be great....I think that even a little time at a day care can be good for kids.....it good for them to be around other kids sometimes.....

I am a working mother and love all the balance of my life. Yes I do miss my kids during the day but cherish my evenings and weekends. I think you need to follow your heart. I would not change my life whatsoever. My kids are both well balanced as well, my son is in the Advanced Reading program at school and my daughter is two and just a dream. Please let it be known that every night we eat dinner at the table together and play in the floor for several hours. Family time is very important since we both work!

I'm a Mom of three and wish some days that I could stay home. I stayed home with my first, worked part-time, went to school, but basically was there at home. When I got pregnant again, with twins, I couldn't afford to stay at home. With 3 kids, it is some what of break for me to go to work. I know that it's weird to go to work to get a break. I stayed home with the twins for a year, though and I'm glad I had that time.
