Almost 100% false. There are scholarships out there for a high GPA or an athletic scholarship. There might be a few scholarships a student could apply for if they meet certain criteria such as music or a certain profession such as nursing. Sometimes support staff get a benefit of their tuition being paid fro by the college or university. Unfortunately, most aid directly from a college or university is based on financial need based on the FAFSA form. If you want to avoid the FAFSA form, I recommend searching for outside scholarships, but it is can be pretty competitive for some, but there are thousands of scholarships. I recommend talking to the high school guidance office and the college's financial aid office for advice. Good luck!

This is almost always false. It may be 100% false.

Most colleges get their financial aid money partly from the U.S. government. If you want to get U.S. government money, you always have to fill out a FAFSA. So if you got any money from a school without filing for the FAFSA, it would be the school's own money. . . which they don't much like to give away. And they would probably make you do the FAFSA anyway.

I guess the only exception would be some kind of special scholarship that wasn't based on financial need, but you said "financial aid," not "scholarship". . .

it depends on what you say is financial aid. I work in a financial aid office and to me, financial aid is grants and loans. To a lot of our students it is just grants. To get the Pell grant you do have to file the FAFSA, to get your low interest Stafford Loans you have to apply for FAFSA. Now, in Ohio there is a grant for full time private school students that you can apply for without filling out the FAFSA, there is just an application in our office. If you are interested in any other type of loan rather than the government issued Stafford, then you would have to apply with another loan company and it will be based off of your credit rather than need.
