They say it takes 6 to 8 weeks for the full effect but since you havent had any improvment talk to your Dr and get your meds changed. I am on Zoloft and I really havent noticed much of difference I feel like I am gonna be depressed forever. There are gonna be some side effects that wont go away your eating habits and sleep patterns will be effected alittle bit but should not be bothersome just different.

Effexor's Typical Side Effects: The usual for SSRIs and SNRIs - headache, nausea, dry mouth, sweating, sleepiness or insomnia, and diarrhea or constipation, weight gain, loss of libido and a host of other sexual dysfunctions. Most everything but the weight gain and sexual dysfunctions usually goes away within a couple of weeks. Although some women will notice that the sexual side effects will diminish above 200-225mg a day when the norepinephrine kicks in. Maybe.

Interesting Stuff Your Doctor Probably Won't Tell You: Few, if any doctors, will discuss the possibility that Effexor could become a permanent part of your life, whether you like the results of Effexor or not. Granted that is a very rare adverse effect, but it does happen. It's hard enough to get them to discuss SSRI discontinuation syndrome., let alone get them to admit that Effexor's symptoms are the absolute worst and the longest lasting of all serotonergic drugs. The discontinuation from Paxil is bad enough, it's much, much worse with Effexor.
For many people Effexor has the absolute worst discontinuation syndrome of an antidepressant.

Effexor is a medication people utterly loathe to have taken. It is not uncommon for someone to fire doctors during or immediately after they quit taking Effexor

I am on Lamictal which is anti -seizure medication that works as a mood stabilizer and anti- depressant. I really don't like to take pharmaceuticals but this drug makes me feel good and there aren't any noticeable side affects. With his drug you are supposed to start with a small amount and gradually increase the dose until you find the dose that works for you. Severe bi-polar people can take about 300 mg twice a day. I take 50 mg twice a day and I notice that I'm not as depressed. You don't have to have really high periods to be diagnosed with bi-polar disorder. Hope that this helps a bit as an option to present to your Dr.

Anti-depressents can have a huge effect on your body and on your mind. They can mess with you eating and sleeping habits, as well as other areas of your life.
