K, ASSUME I JUST GOT ONE (DO NOT POST "DO NOT GET ONE")

My question is... my job allows piercings (someone even has a bull nose ring one... and someone else has a laberet).

My question is... I will be talking to customers... will getting a lip piercing affect my speach in any way? thank you

no, lip piercings will not effect speech, just be sure to go somewhere clean because if you get an infection, your lip will swell, and it will effect your speech

Bull nose ring = septum
People do not appreciate being labeled as livestock :-)

Speech isn't really effected. Granted the fact that many customers may not appreciate the piercing or your expression of individuality you should be able to perform your job just fine. But depending on your job and what exactly you do, I don't see it being a problem if others have facial piercings.

Keep in mind though, the first few days you have a lip piercing the area may swell and you might look a little goofy, but it goes away. Good luck.

If you take it out before the job, it will be fine. They would probably be less likely to hire someone with a lip piercing. Sorry.

Wish you would have mentioned what kind of customers you are talking to and how long do you plan to stay in your type of job.
No that area doesn't affect speech but I'd get pierced somewhere that doesn't show as much when you are interacting with customers..such as eyebrow..for now. Later if you decided to do something else, as we sometimes do, you won't regret it.
I work as an interpreter and a co-worker had several facial piercings a few years ago. Now she let them grow back but they have very noticeable scars and looks like she was in a fight or car accident. Its distracting when she is working and all the clients complain about it. I fear she won't be with us much longer.

No, it will not effect your speech. I have my lip pierced, and even when it was freshly pierced and swollen, I still talked normally. Now, if it was your tounge, that would cause a small speech problem, but that would probably not be noticable either.

No fears, hon. The only negative thing about getting your lip pierced is the cranky grandmas and grandpas that will say it looks silly. =)

Well, I have my left side pierced with a ring and my right side pierced with a stud and neither effected my speech in any way.

people may view you differnetly, but thats about all i can tell you.

they might be scared of you or something, may not take you seriously, etc.

by people i mean 'customers'

ALSOOO, it could affect your speech but most lip piercings i've seen (& heard) haven't given like a lisp or anything. i think you're clear but check before bcs it might depend on where you get the piercing on your lip..

hope this helps!

Well....consider the type of company you work for and remember you are representing the company you are working for....so you decide. But as far as affecting your speech somewhat yes it does sorta distort it.

I always look at people with weird piercings (other than ear) and wonder why that company would hire such a person to represent them. Then I think the company must really be desperate to hire people like that.

I won't do business with a company whose representatives are like that. I guess fast food and convenience stores might be the exception.

no, but if you are speaking to costomers, wether it's to buy something, or whatever else, people judge you based on piercings. i know it's wrong, but you might lose some potential clients, because of a lip piercing.
