You will suffer a little discomfort as the laser is applied depending upon your pain threshold and the type of laser applied. The epilation itself is likely to be effective if you are fair skinned but less effective if you have darker skin.

No, the lasers that are used for such procedures only penetrate a millimeter or less. You could get a burn if it is used improperly, and there is a risk of eye damage (consequently the eye protection).
