You can book what they call an open ticket which has no set return date but you will find that these are much more expensive to buy. Usually you would be better to book two single trips. Also, if you are booking from the uk then you can often find that you are cheaper to book a return than you are a one way ticket on some routes. Have found this out the hard way in the past, now i check several options before booking!! Hope this helps

Yeah, sure you can. I've recently moved abroad, as i got married, and when I was booking our flights over here. I just booked them for 1 way. I'd say the best way to do it is to do it over the Internet, just have a look for cheap flights and do it one way. You can normally get special offers. If you're interested in Germany at all check out HLX, they're really cheap. Good luck and enjoy your trip!

You can book open returns on some airlines and some routes, but not all. You'll need to just check when you're booking your outbound leg.
