Having a drink is not a sin, but drunkenness is. The problem is knowing when you'll cross that line. For some people, one drink lowers their inhibitions and reasoning ability enough that they'll have another. And then another, etc. Then they are drunk before they realize what happened.
I also believe some people are more prone to become addicts. When you think about it, no one plans to become an alcoholic. They all started with one drink. Why risk being someone who crosses that line?
As for me personally, I and my family have a history of addictive behavior. I drank and did drugs before coming to Christ. I continued to drink occasionally for a few years after becoming a Christian. Then I made the decision not to drink at all anymore for several reasons:
1) Every drink was another step back to my old lifestyle.
2) It ruined my witness. People expect Christians to be different. If Christians live like the rest of the world, why would anybody bother becoming one?
3) My husband was a full-blown alcoholic, and every drink I took gave him an excuse to continue. My husband died nearly 4 years ago as a result of his alcoholism. Which brings me to reason #4.
4) To set an example for my 6 children.
When I made the decision not to drink at all, God helped me by causing me to "hate the things I loved and love the things I hated" as the Bible promises. (That's a paraphrase, and I'm too lazy to go look the verses up right now.) I don't miss it at all. I can be around people who are drinking socially and not be bothered at all by drinking something other than alcohol. Rarely does anyone question me about it anymore. They know that's who I am.

Its not a sin to have a drink now and then but it is a sin to get drunk.
"Wine in itself is not evil; but it is the drinking of it in excess (1 Peter 4:3) that displeases God"
Proverbs 23:20; Luke 21:34; Romans 13:13-14; Ephesians 5:18

It is not a sin to drink. No where in Scripture does it say we should not drink. It speaks volumes about drinking too much. Some denominations choose corporately to not drink alcohol, like Baptist. It is okay to adopt that rule. There is nothing wrong with deciding not to drink. It is wrong to say that you do not drink, then do. That is a sin. We should respect each others position on this. If I choose to take a vow not to drink, then a drink would be a sin for me-but not for you.
Paul tells young Timothy not to drink only water, but to drink a little wine for his infirmities. David even praises God for giving wine that gladdens the heart of man. So-it is not a sin to drink. However-we can make it a sin by drinking all the time, by jeopardizing our jobs and families. Alcohol must not be abused.

Jesus drank at the wedding feast. Many peolpe say, "well that was essentially grape juice". If Jesus didn't drink WINE, he would have been breaking the Jewish law. Bible says to drink in moderation/not get drunk. Paul told timmy to drink some wine for his health problem. But keep in mind, just because you can drink, doesn't mean you should. In my life, i have seen no benefit to drinking. Impaired judgement, loss of brain cells, and more. You might say, "well, it relaxes me after a hard week at work". I will let you believe that, but have you tried other sources of relaxation? Get a massage from the wifey :D (then massage her, back). Play with the kids. Drink some exotic fruit drinks.
I recently turned 21 and i don't plan on buying any beer.
I don't drink because i don't see the benefits outweighing the cons. When one speaks of wine, that's a little different. Wine is healthier than beer, but it can still impair you. I would say, "sure drink some wine every now and then, at least that has some benefits physically."

I don't think anyone is going to hell for having a drink after work. Not once in the 10 Commandments does God tell us "Thou shalt not drink!" We Jews use wine in our religious services, and I thought most Christians did as well. I know some sects prohibit it, but the prohibitions have no basis in the scriptures. We Jews believe God made enough prohibitions, and we should enjoy the things he's left us!

As mentioned before Jesus turned water to wine, but the Bible is teaching people to control their temptations and not to put God before anything else on earth. Drinking is a gift from God to be used as a way of encouraging a healthy heart. So whoever seems to be making you feel guilty will have their own reprocusions for judging another human being. They aren't living in the image of God as his Word states. Do not allow them to bring you down you enjoy a drink from time to time. When it becomes an obsession or you can't stop thinking about it you need to give it up because it is now a vice.

Having an alcoholic drink is not sin nor is having a celebration with alcoholic drinks. Jesus turned the water in to wine at the wedding celebration and also had a glass of wine with meals.

In the old testament there are plenty of reward/promises of wine, flowing from the mountains. Jesus turned water into wine, confirming the reward/promise of the old testament. What is more social than having a drink with friends? It implies peace and goodwill, as far as I'm concerned.

yes drinking is OK, many Christians understand the weakness of drunkness and sinful life style with saying it is better to not drink at all rather than helping a weak person to justify drinking to a drunkard. Look in you heart and ask why yes or why no and you will find your best answers to all things in life. But Jesus drank wine and his disciples did also, he also says if you do not drink wine you have no part of Jesus in communion. Wine is the symbol of Jesus Christ blood which we are told if we do not drink then we cannot enter Heaven; John 6:54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.John 6:55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
Now you never hear ministers speak of this much but 70 of Jesus disciples left him at these word and only 12 were left.
Interesting note on this verse matches 666 of the Bible--John6:66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
This was speaking of the 70 that left Jesus because he said these words.
Now one more thing is Nazarene along with many other churches teach that this was new wine that Jesus drank and that really was grape juice, this is no different than what the serpent told Eve, a bold faced lie because new or Old wine could stimulate your body and this is a pattern or type of receiving revelations from God. And you receive no stimulations from grape juice. Hosea 4:11 Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart.
1 Corinthians 11:25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
1 Corinthians 10:16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?
Now if this is not enough for you then here is scripture that identified Jesus as a man that was friends with drunks and publicans which were tax collectors for Rome which all Jews hated; Matthew 11:19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.
Now the next time someone says you cannot drink tell him this scripture and rest your case on you believe this spoken by Jesus Christ; Matthew 15:11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.
16And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?
17 Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?
18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
20These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.
and the same is true for drinking in moderation
