I want to paint a picture to put in my room. My room has 3 moss green walls and 1 white one. The curtains are off-white and lace with flower designs. My bedspread is a blue/green with faded bunches of flowers. I want something to paint that's not too hard- i like drawing things of nature, like sunsets.. not people though; i don't like drawing so much detail. I want to make an impressionist-style painting.. something thats not ordinary, but unique and nice, kinda bold colors? Thanks

Maybe instead of Impressionism you could go more along the Color Field or Abstract lines. Look at Richard Diebenkorn or Mark Rothko. Maybe even study a Jackson Pollock work. Even Georgio Morandi has nice colors in his paintings.

I did illustration for years until I got burned out. I've been doing fine art ever sense. Some of my best ideas come to me in that alfa state just before I fall asleep. I have a note pad next to the bed and make myself jot it down. It's some times hard to read the next morning but it usually jogs my memory. As a rule I may include a dominate color that is in your room but use it sparingly. I think a work of art looks best as an accent. So if you have allot of green, go red or reds and yellows. You don't want it to blend in to the back ground. After all it's special! I'm thinking maybe the clouds of a sunset. Good luck! Rockysart

My friend, I often sell my paintings and the one thing that I've noticed about people who buy original art and who really love and understand art is that they seldom care if the painting they are hanging 'matches' the color of their walls. To such people the art is much more important than the wall it hangs on.

If the question comes up with one of my paintings about it matching the color of paint on someones wall, I always tell them to re-paint the wall to match the painting. If they are that troubled about it I just won't sell them the painting.

The point is, as an artist you should always paint what you want, when you want, using whatever colors or subject matter that feels right to you. Screw the color of the wall it's going to hang on. If you're worried about altering your own unique voice as an artist then you would probably be better off not hanging your own work on that wall, not compromising your own artistic vision, and instead going to your local K-Mart or local Wal-Mart and buying pre-framed 'decoration' art cheaply.

How about a montain scene with a waterfall coming out of it ?
The waterfall could be painted using a glow in the dark paint.

A mountain scene would be soothing and uplifting and not too hard to paint. You could even incorporate a sunset behind them.
