OK so I have heard that the soul will be physically punished in hell beaten, tortured, burned Ect.How exactly would a soul would a soul feel pain or for that matter pleasure? How is fire going to have effect without the physical body which remains on earth. This whole weeping and gnashing of teeth sure does sound like a load When your teeth & eyes along with your decaying remains are ON EARTH buried six feet under or cremated. Does this make any sense?

WHEN you hear the terms “soul” what comes to your mind? Many believe that these words mean something invisible and immortal that exists inside us. They think that at death this invisible part of a human leaves the body and lives on. Since this belief is so widespread, many are surprised to learn that it is not at all what the Bible teaches. What, then, is the soul, according to God’s Word?

First, consider the soul. You may remember that the Bible was originally written mainly in Hebrew and Greek. When writing about the soul, the Bible writers used the Hebrew word ne′phesh or the Greek word psy·khe′. These two words occur well over 800 times in the Scriptures, and the New World Translation consistently renders them “soul.” When you examine the way “soul” or “souls” is used in the Bible, it becomes evident that this word basically refers to (1) people, (2) animals, or (3) the life that a person or an animal enjoys. Let us consider some scriptures that present these three different senses.

People. “In Noah’s days . . . a few people, that is, eight souls, were carried safely through the water.” (1 Peter 3:20) Here the word “souls” clearly stands for people—Noah, his wife, his three sons, and their wives. Exodus 16:16 mentions instructions given to the Israelites regarding the gathering of manna. They were told: “Pick up some of it . . . according to the number of the souls that each of you has in his tent.” So the amount of manna that was gathered was based upon the number of people in each family. Some other Biblical examples of the application of “soul” or “souls” to a person or to people are found at Genesis 46:18; Joshua 11:11; Acts 27:37; and Romans 13:1.

Animals. In the Bible’s creation account, we read: “God went on to say: ‘Let the waters swarm forth a swarm of living souls and let flying creatures fly over the earth upon the face of the expanse of the heavens.’ And God went on to say: ‘Let the earth put forth living souls according to their kinds, domestic animal and moving animal and wild beast of the earth according to its kind.’ And it came to be so.” (Genesis 1:20, 24) In this passage, fish, domestic animals, and wild beasts are all referred to by the same word—“souls.” Birds and other animals are called souls at Genesis 9:10; Leviticus 11:46; and Numbers 31:28.

Life as a person. Sometimes the word “soul” means one’s life as a person. Jehovah told Moses: “All the men who were hunting for your soul are dead.” (Exodus 4:19) What were Moses’ enemies hunting for? They were seeking to take Moses’ life. Earlier, while Rachel was giving birth to her son Benjamin, “her soul was going out (because she died).” (Genesis 35:16-19) At that moment, Rachel lost her life. Consider also Jesus’ words: “I am the fine shepherd; the fine shepherd surrenders his soul in behalf of the sheep.” (John 10:11) Jesus gave his soul, or life, in behalf of mankind. In these Bible passages, the word “soul” clearly refers to life as a person. You will find more examples of this sense of “soul” at 1 Kings 17:17-23; Matthew 10:39; John 15:13; and Acts 20:10.

A further study of God’s Word will show you that nowhere in the entire Bible are the terms “immortal” or “everlasting” linked with the word “soul.” Instead, the Scriptures state that a soul is mortal, meaning that it dies. (Ezekiel 18:4, 20) Therefore, the Bible calls someone who has died simply a “dead soul.”—Leviticus 21:11.

Yes, your question make a lot of sense. Full marks for asking. Sadly, I think I have news you won't like. You appear to not believe in the existence of a spiritual element to the body, this is actually very common in the western world. However, the Bible does make it plain that a person has a spiritual element to their life.
Ask yourself a slightly different question: "Is the knowledge of a nervous system an essential prerequisite to feeling pain?" What I mean is if you didn't know about a nervous system and nerve endings, etc, could you still feel pain? Of course! Animals don't know about the nervous system, yet they can feel pain.
So although we don't know the exact nature of HOW a person who is in hell receives their suffering, the important fact is Jesus said they DO.
If I was brought up in a very isolated area and had never seen anything electrical and because of that decided electricity couldn't exist, and one day I saw a sign which said "Danger High Voltage Wires, No Insulation! DO NOT TOUCH", do you think because I didn't believe in electricity that I would escape receiving an electric shock if I touched the wires? No, I would not escape.
The same applies here: Many people die and have gambled that they will get to heaven (they won't), or that they will be able to sort things out (you can't), or that hell isn't really that bad (it's worse).
If you were accussed of a serious crime and you could prove your innocence, would you go to court and not take evidence to prove it? No, that would be stupid. The same reasoning applies here. The "court case" is real, everyone has an appointment before God's Judgement throne, and most people will not take the evidence along to show they are innocent.
Jesus is the "Evidence". He is the only one who can prove your innocence when you die. If you want him to help you he will, if you don't he won't. The choice is yours.

The soul returns to the Light when it leaves the body.

All that you herad is not true. A soul is not physical. It is merely energy. Our conciousness is our soul. Ask the scientists to explain how the concious human mind works and you'll have your answer. ( they don't know, so neither do we. we just know we are here and alive, and our soul, our conciousness, is the reason.)

SOUL:

Souls are created as Adam and Eve.
Souls are now born in sin because of these.
Souls are resurrected to salvations and made free.
Psalms 6:5 For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?
Psalms 7:2 Lest he tear my soul like a lion, rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.
Psalms 49:14 Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling. Psalms 49:15 But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.
Acts 2:27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Acts 2:31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. [sepulchre hell as John 19:38-41; cave, tomb or grave]; Acts 2:32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. Acts 2:33 Therefore[Jesus] being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and ear. Acts 2:34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Acts 2:35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool[foes =Satan and his angels];
Acts 24:15 And have hope toward God, Which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust. [resurrected souls of just and unjust for judgement]. Psalms 104:29 Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.
Psalms 104:30 Thou sendest forth thy spirit,[Num16:22; James 2:26]; they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.
Psalms 115:15 Ye are blessed of the LORD which made heaven and earth.115:16 The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD's: but the earth hath he given to the children of men. 115:17 The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence.
Luke 8:50 But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole. Luke 8:52 And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said,
Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth. Luke 8:54 And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise. Luke 8:55 And her spirit came again,
and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat.
Eze.37:12 Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. 13 And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves, 14 And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I the LORD have spoken it, and performed it, saith the LORD.
