And what really stinks is that TurboTax2006 won't open your return for past years, either so if you threw out your old disk you can't open your old returns if you want to see them.

Nope. But you can use it as a guide and then just get the 2006 forms from the Post Office and fill them out. Sometimes there are changes from year to year and of course, the 2005 printed on it doesn't work for 2006.

No, you have to buy the 2006 version. Many rules and tables change each year - if you tried to use the 2005 one, it would give wrong answers.
There are updates on the TurboTax site that can be downloaded. These don't update old versions to be good for this year, they just update the 2006 version for new things that came out after the software was produced and sent out to the stores.
