I know the reasons for keeping your daughter clean - (most everyone does) however my ex husband does not understand the importance of this and I'm looking for links or websites to talk about what could happen if a little girl goes days without 'cleaning' herself. She often times comes home with a rash in her private area and wearing in the same panties and clothes that she left in, having slept, played and eaten them for 3 days. He's also not the cleanest person - so she comes home smelling bad. I need some help, some links that I can print out and send with her so he can understand the importance of keeping his daughter clean (especially her 'private' parts)

Keeping your body clean is an important part of keeping you healthy and helping you to feel good about yourself.Caring about the way you look is important to your self esteem (what you think about yourself). This topic gives you some ideas on looking your best. By the way, you don't need to wear the latest designer clothing to look good. There are other things you can do which are much more important for your "image".

One of the most effective ways we have to protect ourselves, and others, from a lot of illnesses is good hygiene. Hygiene means washing your hands especially, but also washing the rest of your body. It means taking care when you are handling food and storing food. It also means being careful not to cough or sneeze on others, cleaning things that you touch, throwing away things such as tissues that might have germs on them and using protection (such as gloves or condoms) when you might be at risk of catching some infections.

Vulval and vaginal problems in prepubertal females

Vulval and vaginal problems in young girls usually result in pruritus vulvae (itch affecting the female genital area). It is a common problem in this age group. Causes and treatments differ slightly between prepubertal females and mature women.
What causes pruritus vulvae?

The main cause of pruritus vulvae in prepubertal females is poor hygiene and the presence of chemical and/or mechanical irritants.
Poor hygiene is usually the result of a back to front wiping motion after urinating or bowel movement. This contaminates the vulva with faeces and faecal pathogens. An infection may readily develop as at this age the vulva is thin, delicate, and has a neutral pH, which makes it an excellent medium for bacterial growth.
Soaps, bubble baths, laundry detergents, shampoo, and chlorinated pool water are all potential chemical irritants. Mechanical irritation may occur from scratching the area, harsh wiping with toilet paper, or rubbing from tight-fitting underwear. The prepubertal vulva is particularly vulnerable because of the lack of oestrogen-induced labial fat pads, thickening of the skin, and pubic hair.

Good luck, i share my 4 1/2 year old with her father every other week. hygiene is out biggest issues. her ears aren't even ever clean when she comes home, along with nails that need to be cleaned and clipped. hope it goes better. other wise my advice is document every thing, it will help if you want full custody with only supervised visits or no overnights!
