Do you feel Yahoo Answers is an appropriate forum to attack "people"? For example, is this an appropriate forum to attack "Atheists" or "Christians" or "Muslims"?

Or

Is this an appropriate form to ask questions about "AtheISM" or "ChristianITY" or "Islam"?

Now, I am all for rhetoric and satire. I do it every day.

But, there is a difference between attacking "CreationISM" and attacking "CreationISTS".

I'm sure I've broken down and attacked people. For that I was wrong.

I can do better.

Can you?

Seriously wouldn`t we like to log in here sometimes and have a real discussion at an adult level,be it Atheism or Religion and come away with useful facts instead of the garbage that seems never ending?

Jim...I feel the same way. I do enjoy the questions and I am not so stick in the mud that I cannot laugh at some things or enjoy a bit of cleverly worded irony and satire.

I am...very happy...to see this question come from you. I know its probably more of love the sinner, not the sin and love the dog, not the dogma ideology...but I appreciate very much that you express that we should argue the belief and not the believer.

I have lost it more than once here and people put up with me and did not report me and that makes me feel like I do have a certain freedom to express my feelings here. But...I have also attacked people and like you, for that I was wrong and I can do better.

Thank you for being honest. It takes a big person to admit they're wrong.

There IS a difference between satire and attacking.
Yahoo answers SHOULD be a forum for learning.
But, sadly this is not the case. It is just another example of the human condition.

I can do better too.

I try to separate out the beliefs from the person, and certainly hold that for my own position. (which I consider fair game for comment and criticism.)
Giving it a work-out is likely to improve its health, and if it can't stand up, then it needs replacing. It won't have been ME that's been destroyed, merely an inadequate point of view.

Personal rules of engagement:
First ad hominen attack loses.
First straw man argument loses.
First expletive or insult loses.
And yes, I have occasionally broken my own rules, to my regret.
Especially when I fail to let utterly stupid arguments sit there and self-reveal, but pointlessly respond in the forlorn hope that people will realise what they are asking/proclaiming.

i think of you're making an exciting element. each and every so often that's a ethical subject, or a query of functional ethics. functional ethics includes troublesome options, and that's a risk to have the two smart people arise with distinctive conclusions. A liberal ought to sidestep people from demise, it is morally sturdy, yet a conservative ought to sidestep the government from forcing him or everyone else from doing something. puzzling options. i'm probable greater liberal than conservative via fact i've got self belief I even have an criminal accountability to help people, yet there ought to be disagreements between the two smart people approximately what's the splendid subject to do on specific subject concerns. anyhow, sturdy element.

I think if you don't like what someone believes or has to say then it can be easily avoided by just going to another forum or question or making one of your own. There are people who believe in things I don't and so I just don't respond because I would have nothing positive to tell them about their beliefs and I see no need to degrade them just because. Very well put by the way =)

Hear, hear Jim. I agree. This should be a place to exchange information and engage in open debate about the issues at hand. Unfortunately, few people are mature enough to separate their own identities from the groups they associate with.

I do not think this is the right place to attack anyone.

I think this is the right column to ask questions about Atheism or Christianity or Islam.

I think we all can do better and we really should too.

It's easier to laugh at the kid who is in the wheelchair than to take the time to find out what put him in there.

If you do that, you might learn something about that person, and that's the last thing most people want.

geez, I can't believe I just typed that.

You mean like asking if a Christian thinking they're nothing without a god is a psychological problem?

It was an honest question that I posted that was, yet again, not answered.
