You can stay at a youth hostel for free, if you help out, and if you are 18. Also, most if not all hostels will not let you sleep in the same area as the opposite sex, so if your bringing a friend, he/she will not be sleeping in the same room as you.

I asume you're very young, if you're asking this. You can register into a youth hostel with no age limit, or at least, if you can travel alone, you can stay there.
