I had an Audi A4 with saloon boot i was running 2 subs in the boot and although i didn't have 6X9's on the shelf i Had put in some uprated 5"1/4s in there and i never had any problem with the speakers! But i had one hell of an issue with vibration! the entire back end of the car sounded like it was going to fall apart! So if you are installing in to a saloon boot i recommend some sound deadening first although shouldn't be as much of an issue in a hatch back!

yes this is true and your friend is telling the truth. Most of the people who say it is not true because they do not know it is happning and probably have never heard a GOOD car system in their life. Get rid of the 6x9's and spend your money on some good door speakers for the front. The reason being that is where you sit and you should benefit from the great music from your system. A sub set up well in a hatchback will fill the whole of the car nicely and you may only need some door speakers at the back for rear fill but not neccessary. Anyone who has 6x9's and a sub in the same space probably just does not know the effects so it is not their fault. Your mate is right.

without going in to detail i did this and it totally changed all the sound from the sub. i don't know how it effects the "air" created from sub but it does. because i spent allot of cash on the 6x9's and an amp to power them i reinforced the back shelf and built 2 en-closers for the 6x9's so that they were totally sealed off from the boot space.it did the trick but meant there was no boot space left and was driving around with extra weight that was not really needed. try door mount them if poss, not too hard to do, but will need a bit of cutting out

I have had a 1000w Sub running in the boot of a caviler (hatchback) for ages. Haven't had any problems with the 6 x 9's in the shelf, other than vibrations and some of the amp power leads melting. If you know where to put the wires for the sub and the amp do it yourself. If you worried about the 6 x 9's Set them as far from the sub as you can get them. You can ask in some where that fits stereos (Halfords, Motorworld Etc) and they'll tell you if it is likely to cause problems if you are still unsure
Good luck and enjoy your sounds
;o)

Sounds like a load of cobblers, unless you're fitting God's own sub back there. If you're worried, box in the back of the speakers under the shelf, so they're isolated from the air moved by the sub.

There are these ingenious things called "Baffle Cups" that cost about 10 a pair and are made of plastic. They are designed to keep your midbass tight, waterproof, and from bass pushing them to their x-max.
They are well worth it.
Yes it will always happen without some kind of baffle.
Good Luck!

this is entirely true, however it is the same if you have any speakers in close proximity to another speaker pushing a large volume of air (like a sub)
theres not really anything you can do about it so dont worry
