The white oak is used foor making whiskey barrels and I know you can use the shavings for horse bedding, but I was wondering about if it can be used for dogs also.

Oak is OK but it does nothing as insect repellent, just comfort. Almost all dog beddings are stuffed with cedar shavings because its oil exudes anti-insect properties. That's the same reason why furniture makers line chests and drawers with cedar. Moths especially dislike it but I'm sure it has some effect against fleas and ticks.

The only problem I can see is your dog may ingest some of the wood from cleaning himself or on a bone he took there etc. not good. Put the shavings in a cover.

No, would you want to sleep on that. Just go buy him a bed for 30 dollars that is made with cotton.

as long as there not to small to get in there eyes and nose never use ceder or treated wood this can poison the dog
