It would help to have more information. How much does it weigh? Do you play with it to encourage more exercise? Obesity can shorten a cats life.

My female house cat put on weight as soon as I had her spayed. She is 10 years old, very lazy and really fat. I just had my vet do a blood panel to check for health problems, she is fine, just lazy. Be sure you don't feed your cat more than a half a cup of food a day, that is what my vet recommends anyways.

What else does a cat really have to do inside all day by eat and sleep? Mine play, but don't get the exercise they would if they had free reign over the neighborhood.

Well... one of my cats just turned 9. He is a bit over-weight at 15 lbs (last I checked 6 months ago). He eats wet canned food primarily and just a little less than a handful of dry kibble. Ive just switched him to Iams weight control canned cat food and weight control dry kibble. He eats 1 cn of Iams a day and half a handful of dry inbetween main meals. He must have lost weight already becuase he seems much much slicker now and is as playful as a kitten. He has always been a rather active cat, but he just seems more kittenish now - probably becuase he isn;t carrying so much weight anymore. Just looking at him I'd say he's lost a pound at least. Vet told me he should be 12 - 13 pounds (he is a big male).

Sadly pretty lazy, as for Fat not that overweight, if you've been giving him proper portions then he should be a bit saggy but not Obese - barrell shaped. I might check with your Vet on what you can do...as you open yourself up to Diabetes & other Adult diseases by keeping the weight on, not to mention arthritis. I would try to set aside 5-10 mins each day to Play with your cat, finding a toy or Light beam to excite them...they get bored too especially if they don't have anyone to play with.

Seven year old is young, still. And a lazy attitude might be in his character.

However if your cat isnt active by nature much and you think your cat is overweight, you might re-concider on what to feed it.

For a dieet go to the vet. If else, lack a bit on the treats you feed it.
(Do not make up a dieet of your own!!)
