The answers that say use 1040EZ if you don't have investment income are right.

If you made under $5150, you are not required to file at all. But if you had any federal income tax withheld, you should file to get it refunded to you. Otherwise they'll keep it.

Ah, you don't file taxes in Canada, generally, when you are under 18. Your parent files, claiming you as a dependent, unless you made too much (net) income, thus eliminating the tax deduction. In the year you turn 18 all of the deductions ect... are prorated, to account for the time period after your 18th birthday, which is your responsiblility. Contact the Canada Revenue Agency for an information bulleting on turning 18.

Is the few thousand her only income? If she has investment income, her return will get more complicated because of the kiddie tax.

If not, she probably just needs 1040EZ or 1040A. Since she is claimed as a dependent on her parent's tax return, she will not be able to claim an exemption for herself on her tax return.

For example, check out line 5 on 1040EZ.

probably 1040A. She will not get her personal deduction is all if her parents claim her. I don't think the 1040EZ works if she is claimed by her parents. www.irs.gov can tell you exactly which form
