automatically assume when they get a crush on someone, that-that someone is interested too and they begin reading into all these otherwise normal jestures like smiling or saying "hi" to someone and then freak out over it. Know what I mean?

It's scary. It's like you can't look at another human being and offer a smile or greeting without the person going all looney on you.
Look how pathetic this is: people are putting ads in the paper because someone looked at him!

"WE STARED AT EACH OTHER BUT NO ONE SAID ANYTHING THEN YOU RAN OUT OF THE STORE HOLDING A PHONE TO YOUR EAR . YOU WERE TANNED (MAYBE MIXED), BLUE EYES, BALD, AND ME , I WAS A BRUNETTE /BLUE EYES . I HOPE YOU GET THIS !"

It's wishful thinking. Also, when you have a crush on someone, you start imagining all of the ways you are compatible and would be great together, and when the other person doesn't seem to 'get it', it's confusing. You feel like it's so obvious they should be able to see it!

It's like the Paul Simon song says: "You don't feel you could love me, but I feel you could."

It's usually painful to have a crush on someone who doesn't return the feelings, so try to be gentle to whoever has a crush on you, but also very clear. Just repeat as often as necessary, "I'm sorry. I don't feel that way about you and that's not going to change."

I was totally wondering the same thing. I think just the plain narcissism in the human nature is what contributes to this behavior. Humans automatically assume that if they like someone, that they themselves are so physically attractive that the other party will reciprocate their feelings. People tend to overanalyze things when they are phsically attracted to someone. For instance, In the case of a teenage girl, if a boy says, "Are you taking AP Calculus?" She might interpret the question as :
1. "Oh my god! He thinks I'm smart!"
or
2."Does this mean he wants to be in my class?"
When the boy might only want to know what the homework was or if this annoying girl he hates might be in his math class.

Yeah.. They just hope to find SOMETHING, anything that can hopefully have a chance that they like you back. Sometimes being friendly is read wrong in alot of cases. You think there's a fine line between flirting and being friendly?

Yes I do know what you mean. It is because they have a fantasy in their minds about a relationship with their "crush" and don't want to deal with the fact that in reality their "crush" doesn't feel anything.

im sure you do the same thing

for me its usually the opposite, because I am oblivious when it comes to if a guy likes me. Someone will say "he was flirting" and ill think it was only friendliness. So if I do think hes flirting, he probaly he is...why do most people do this? simple, wishful thinking

It's called "infatuation". Or, in some cases, it's called "obsession". And I don't mean the perfume! And yes, I know exactly what you mean!!
