Because those who compiled the Bible changed the original story where female characters had a main, determinant role, in order to lessen their importance and build a new religion centered on a single male deity; a new Faith ruled by men only;)

The special ones are mentioned. Women back in the day were very "seen and not heard". Just like they were a little over 50 years ago. When a woman did something worth mentioning, they are mentioned in the Bible.

I agree with above that the Bible was focused on a partriarchal society, but also believe that most of the time family was too sacred or important to write about, or was just not necessary as part of the story. This wasn't necessarily someones journal, which would probably mention more women, but a historical recitation/legacy. Just a long shot here.

I can't exactly answer your question, but would you agree that most of the women mentioned are exceptional and great examples for women today. Also Proverbs 31:10-31 kind of outlines the attributes that God admires in women and it says.....her works will be praised inside the gates. So I feel like women of God will have more recognition later on.

There are many women mentioned in the Bible. Eve, Sarah, Rachel, Leah, Ruth, Rebecca, Miriam, Deborah, Hannah, Dinah, Salome, Esther, Bathsheba, Jesabel.

Just how many do you want?

I haven't counted them but there are a few even with roles that didn't belong to their era, anyway when studying history documents you shouldn't judge them by the values of your epoch, in those times women hadn't a predominant social influence. (I'd be happy if someone didn't just drop an easy "the bible is sexist")
