I live with my parents at the moment, but in June I am getting married and moving out. I know the deadline for the FASFA is before that, so what do I put? I don't want to be cut short of any assistance that I might receive, because I know that between me and my fiance, we don't make nearly as much as my parents do. Thanks!

Fill out your application online (fafsa.ed.gov) right now, and mark single.

When you get married, you can go back in and change your status to married, and they will process your application again.

Filling it out now gets it in before the deadline...changing your information later isn't counted against you.

u need to use the income from last years taxes.. (2006).. Until u actaully get married, u can't be considered indep. unless u are 24. Once u get married, take the license to the FA office and they will change ur classification.. Anything could happen and u not get married so go by ur circumstances NOW.. Their isn't really a deadline for pell grants..but there is for state grants, work study, etc. Most places are March and April.. at the latest June 1.. Even if u wait to fill it out, u still have to use 2006 taxes and contact FA for an override/classification change.. GL

You fill out the form based on your current marrital status. No school I have worked at has ever allowed a change in marrital status if it changed your dependency status so you might want to see if you school does first or not before you decide when to complete the form. Also remember that if you choose to wait until you are married you will still need to include your husband's income from last year even if you were not married.

You do have to file for yoru current stuats. If you file your FAFSA on Jan 31, but you're getting married on Feb 1st, you have to still put single/dependant. My advice to you is wait to file your FAFSA or if you have to file it now, you may be able to get a have a Special Circumstance done. We do this for our students so we can manually change your FAFSA. You can never change your marital status, but your FA office can.
